Ok, I understand two things before you dismiss my questions..

1) that you will be able to record video programs on the x5..

2) but you will need a sub-pack or go thru cradle..

NOW, does this mean that there will be a newer sub-pack for this player , as I understand the sub-pack for the m3 just has line in and line out? But since the x5 will record video, then wont there also have to be a video line in and audio line in as well? Meaning there should be a newer sub-pack that goes for this player?? Does anybody know of any sub-packs that will be releases for x5?

The X5 will playback video files transferred through USB, it won't be able to record directly. The A2 is the one with that ability.

your sure? I could swear someone in here was bragging on how this thing could actually record programs? jUST BY SAY connecting to TV or DVD player. You can back this up by some kind of proof I would appreciatte it..

There has never been any mention that the X5 will have any video recording ability, it has been stated that the A2 can however. I don't know where we can find proof to disprove something that doesn't exist.
The X5 will be able to play MPEG-4 files only.

is it true that X5 only plays mpeg-4 files ?!
well psp only plays mpeg-4 files and it is a hassle to convert ur video files to mpeg4..
i think people who wants to play movies and other video on X5 should pass and wait for A2..

The M3 subpack isn't only a line-in/line-out, it also has a USB port (and power port). I think your question is really will they use the same subpack? It seems to me they could, but I don't know if the X5/M5 has the USB port directly on the unit... I'm sure the answer is somewhere in these forums.... I gave up on the X5/M5 too long ago to care... perfectly happy with my M3 40GB. :)

Nah no way it won't be able to record video the hardware simply isn't powerful enough. It will be able to play back videos created using your pc and copied across using usb.

The iRiver uses Xvid MPEG4. I'm hoping this will or DivX.

Besides to record from a TV/DVD player it would need video inputs which it doesn't have (so there's your proof), the iRiver doesn't have these and I'd be very surprised if the A2 does also. These players are designed to playback/record PC/Mac compatible video streams.

The initial specs of the A2 indicated AV in/Out and the ability to record TV directly.

The archos av4x0 records video from composite or s-video. I expect that the A2, while smaller and nicer looking will as well.

So can you even recharge the X5 WITHOUT the subpack??

Not unless you are using the cradle instead.

edit: Not that you can charge it without either the AC adaptor, a USB cable, or a car adaptor either, so just keep the sub-pack with whichever cable you charge with. Most people don't carry chargers around with them.

I agree Tsayin but think even with size in mind the charger socket should be on the unit. It's the most important socket on the sub-pack by far.
