I wish...Nero Recode 2 seems to encode vids faster than jetaudio...if it was meant to support mp4 it's the first I've heard of it

So D2 doesn't support MP4 files?

Rename .mp4 to .avi.... Should work that way... Let us know...

.mp4 and .avi are different containers.

Regardless of that I just got a test .MP4 a second ago and changed it to .AVI.
My Computer still plays it fine so I'm assuming I can then run that through ,y encoder to make it the correct size and it should work just fine. :)

Just a guess tho, not tried yet. :)

Generally MP4 files have their audio Encoded in AAC format and not MP3 so that's the hangup. The is a good program out there called MP4camavi that will convert MP4 files to .avi, very very quickly

I tried that but when I play the converted file, my D2 just restarts.
The MP4 works when I convert it with Jetaudio but not with MP4camavi.

PS- the thing converts really fast..

Take a look at the latest firmware files (.bin) - there are few strings, concerning H.264 decoding, but no .MP4 extention (complete extentions list: MP3 MT2 DCF WMA MP2 OGG FLA APE MAC WAV BSC AAC AVI WMV TES CAM JPG TXT). Seems to me, Cowon removed H.264 decoding from Telechips SDK...

I wonder if a Custom FW could add it back in. Problem with decoding H264 is the power required would drain the battery alot faster. The customization I hope happens is lifting the 320x240 limitation off of the D2. THat would save me from having to encode seperate versions of files because my A2 480x272 versions won't play on the D2

What is that "Custom FW" you're talking about?

What program are you using to look at the bin file?

What program are you using to look at the bin file?
WinHex, for example... or any hex-viewer/editor you prefer personally. :) Not real reverse-engineering tool, but suitable to take a look at binary file (D2 firmware files are not encrypted, luckily).

Yes, h.264 decoding is complex, but not much more complex than divx/xvid decoding. ~6hrs of h.264/aac playback VS ~9hrs of xvid/mp3 playback - I can live with this. H.264-encoded video, compared with xvid: 1) has better quality at same bitrate; or 2) has lower bitrate with same quality.[thumbsup]

Uhm... am I right saying TCC78xx SOC can decode XVID/H.264 with VGA resolution? I don't know (neither can imagine) the source of a such limitation (QVGA only decoding). [confused] What can I suggest - write a message to Cowon support... no answer from support - bombard guys with messages... usually works for me. [wink]

Just on a random note, run a search for SUPER. IT's free and i've rarely had a problem I couldn't solve with it's encoding.
