Hi, I just got a brand new x5 60gb in the mail today after my creative zen xtra 30gb finally died. The first thing I did (after testing a few songs) was to upgrade the firmware to 2.11b1-e because I need DRM support for my Napster To Go subscription. I can't seem to get songs transferred onto the player though. I'm using the USB host port, and I'm trying to synchronize using WMP. The problem is that the first track that it tries to transfer just stays at "Copying (100%) for a really long time. Eventually it gives me the error message "The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request." Anyone have any ideas?

I am not sure that 2.11b1 officially supports WMP11. Maybe someone else on the forum can confirm this, but the firmware download release notes state that 2.11b1 should be compatible with DRM10. But there is this disclaimer, too - Please note that this is a beta version and it is not official for the X5 to support DRM related files (online purchased WMA files).

I transferred some DRM files months ago and I may have used drag-and-drop using Windows Explorer via the Host USB Port. Try that and let us know if this alternative method works. I really cannot remember.

EDIT: Found it. You would need to use WMP10.

"Please note that current Beta firmware will only support Windows XP and Windows Media Player 10". Ref. http://support.cowonamerica.com/supportcentral/index.php?_m=knowledgebase&_a=viewarticle&kbarticleid=77

I forgot to mention that I have already gone back to wmp 10 because I found that it worked better doing this with my old player. And unfortunately, dragging and dropping doesn't seem to work either.

Something else now seems to be wrong. When I first attached the the player to the computer as an MTP device with the host port, Napster recognized the player and prompted me to add it as a supported player. Now it no longer recognizes it when it's attached. My computer still recognizes it just fine though. This isn't directly a problem because I don't plan to use Napster to do my file transfers, but this may be the reason why it won't let me use other methods for transfer.

Hmm, this is frustrating. Wonderful sound quality and features on this player, but if I can't get it to work with my 30 gigs of Napster music, it isn't worth it to me.

i've subscribed to yahoo unlimited for almost 2 years now. when drm playback was first available on the x5 i tried it out, but was never satisfied with the functionality. so i looked around and found the tunebite software so i wouldn't have to deal with any of these issues. i strongly suggest looking into it. tunebite is much faster now then it used to be, too. or google FU4WMver13. a less legal method, but if you keep your subscription to napster current then that seems fair, i suppose.

Thanks for the tip. I would prefer to stay legit, but I guess there's no harm as long as I keep the subscription. I may go that route.

It still seems like this should work though. So I'll keep messing around with it for a while. Any suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks.

2.11b1 will likely remain a beta version as Cowon does not seem to provide additional development for the X5. HiMDforMe provides a reasonable solution, one that I have used in the past.

Try this tip to get your X5 to connect to WMP. Trun the player on, start playing a music file and then try connecting to the PC. Sometimes this gets the initial connection establised.
