View Full Version : NuShield vs. Shieldzone screen protectors
I have both screen protectors, and I've just taken off my NuShield and put on the Shieldzone. Here's my impressions of both.
NuShield
Pros: Looks nice when it's on. Doesn't look much different from the original, unprotected screen. The shield slides under all four bezel edges of the D2 case, so you have complete protection of the screen. It seems very durable, and should last a LOT longer than the company's projected 4-month lifespan.
Cons: Very difficult to put on until you learn the technique (your best bet is to read the various posts in this forum before your first attempt to apply the shield). The NuShield is a hard plastic sheet, and you need to be careful of the screen popping out of your fingers when you're trying to push it under the case bezel. If it pops into the air, you'll most likely have damaged the shield by bending it, which forms a permanent crease. There's 3 shields in the package, so you have that many tries to get it right. Very easy to get fingerprints all over the screen, and you can see the prints when you're watching videos. You need to have some kind of cleaning cloth handy for the screen all the time. Using your shirt or paper towels will usually just push the oils around on the screen. So a microfiber eyeglass cloth is ideal.
Comments: Aside from fingerprints galore and difficulty in installing the shield, it gives you good protection.
Shieldzone
Pros: Installation is a lot easier than the NuShield. It's an extremely durable, bendable plastic. It slides under the D2's case bezel, so you get all-around protection. No need to worry about damaging the shield during installation, it can take lots of abuse. Like the NuShield, the Shieldzone doesn't alter the image quality much, if any. It doesn't attract fingerprints - and when it does get a print, you can wipe the screen with anything, and it's all clean. I usually just rub the fingerprint away with my finger, and believe it or not, it works.
Cons: Just one, and it won't be a con once you've got the shield on. For first time users (like me), you'll be really worried about the liquid spray getting into the D2 and damaging something. The liquid dries pretty quick, and there's an included squeegee to help you get out the excess solution. Wiping the player down in the end will ease your mind once you see that no harm was done. I turned my player on immediately after installing the shield and it worked fine.
Comments: To apply the shield, you spray a slightly soapy solution on your fingers and on both sides of the shield. The trick to an easy installation is to spray the shield a lot so that it slides around easier.
Conclusion
Both shields offer great protection, and picture and video viewing isn't hampered while using either one. The NuShield is a fine screen protector, and fingerprints aren't that big of a deal. For anyone who's paranoid about using the liquid in the Shieldzone kit, NuShield is the way to go. Shieldzone has a softer, more tactile feel when you're tapping with your finger - it seems to improve tapping accuracy as your finger doesn't slide around - which it does on the NuShield. Personally I prefer the Shieldzone, but I think both screen protectors do a good job [smile]

Hey thanks for your review! I was getting really confused about the choices but I'm glad someone's clarified things!
Shieldzone has a softer, more tactile feel when you're tapping with your finger
How does the shieldzone feel with the stylus? It sounds like it wouldn't work very well with the stylus (for example when you are scribbling things for the dictionary)
Using the stylus on the NuShield feels slick. On the Shieldzone, there's a grippy feel. But the stylus works OK on either shield [smile]

I think it should also be noted that Shieldzone has a lifetime warranty, so if it rips or even scratches, they'll send you a new one for free!...I find that quite an awesome part of their product. I've got my shieldzone coming in soon, and hopefully my D2 will be in at the same time....

i too have both the nushield and shieldzone protectors. keal's review is spot-on. only thing i would add is that the nushield product can be ridiculously hard to apply, and perhaps equally as difficult to remove.
i think the nushield, once put on, will be more durable. little need to worry about breaking through the protector unless you use a knife. so, if you're inclined to be heavy-handed with the screen, perhaps this would be better for you (once someone can get it installed in the first place)
the shieldzone protector is probably adequate for the majority of users out there. it's just thick enough to withstand all but the most serious attacks on the screen. since it's much easier to apply, i would give it a slight edge over nushield.
in the end, either one will work. brand new, it is my opinion that the nushield screen has a bit more clarity.

I have tried to apply the shieldzone for d2 and let me say this is the worst product i've ever used for display protection.
For starters, u need to use a solution to wet your hands, soak your d2 and then shove the film underneath the plastic casing. Doing so, you touch the sticky part of the film, and i got finger prints that could not be washed off on it. Luckily they have a good return policy, because i'm sending it back today.
Let me say i have a lot of experience installing film protectors. I've installed many, many protectors (hard film w/ static adhevsive) on my pda's, phones, mp3 players and can do so without any dust underneath.

Actually, the correct way is on the shield (which i did but forgot to mention) and your hands. Watch the installation video. Putting some more on the D2 certainly helped as well. Even If it got on OK, the screen is not the clearest. There won't be a next time.
http://www.shieldzone.com/movie/index.html
When I first tried to install the Shieldzone, I couldn't get it lined up correctly and I didn't think it would go under the case bezel. Being the klutz I am, I got fingerprints and some dirt fragments stuck to the adhesive side. To clean the shield, I sprayed the adhesive side and really soaked it, and I rubbed the fingerprints and dirt off with my fingers. The shield was so wet, the adhesive was no longer sticky (not to worry, as the liquid dries up, it gets sticky again). The shield became totally clean, and slid onto the D2 with ease.
Here's a tip when installing the Shieldzone. Make the shield really wet. lay one edge of the shield onto the D2 but keep the shield in your hand - don't just plop it onto the player. Using your free hand, slide the shield until the edge that's sitting on the screen is flush against the bezel. Now slowly lay the shield down onto the player, while using your free hand to keep the shield from sliding around. Because one edge of the shield is lined up with the bezel, the whole shield should basically line up correctly, and you'll get a part of the shield sticking out over the bezel in the end. Now, the shield should be sticking pretty good in the center of the screen. You can now fiddle with the edges of the shield by rubbing it with your finger, and getting it to slide under the bezel.
As for the screen not being as crisp and clear as the NuShield, maybe my eyes need checking - but they both seem the same to me when I'm watching videos.
Having used both shields, I will most likely go with Shieldzone for my future purchases, as I like the grippy feel, and the way it deals with fingerprints. But the NuShield is a fantastic protector, too. [smile]

I haven't installed mine yet but I'm pretty certain that the finger prints you get are due to dirty fingers and your fingers + the shield not being "wet enough".....It's always good to have clean hands whether you're installing it or not :P

Yes, it's in the instructions to clean them.
Since the shieldzone is so sticky, there is no need to have it extend under the case bezel. If it was perfectly cut, you just need to lay it on top and that would save a lot of time where the shield is exposed to floating dust, and also where the solution dries up when you're trying to shove it in. Maybe if they supplied two or three more, I could master this, but this should be a simple product, why should there be such a steep learning curve.

I finaly relized that a sheildzone is an 'Invisible Shield' I have used BSE (best skins ever) in the past and have a spare that can be cut down to suit the D2.
If anyone knows, does the D2 screen protector have a different adhesive than say the ipod or creative shields?

I'd have to agree with williamn, though this was my first time trying to apply a protective screen. I ended up using up all of the solution and still didn't get the film on right, so I e-mailed Shieldzone in hopes of getting another and only have to pay for shipping. I know their lifetime guarantee does not cover installment errors, but I hope I can still take advantage of the 30 day warranty.
I also noticed that there were marks left on my screen, unnoticeable when the D2 is on but when I put it against the light I see small marks.
Hope I can try again and just have to pay for shipping.

I know that with the BSE you just use soapy solution to apply the skin, one drop of dishwashing (not dishwasher) liquid in a breakfast bowl of clean water stirred in does the job, just scrap the foam off the solution and dip your fingers in then soak the skin and apply.
If the Shieldzone skin is the same material as the ones they make for the ipod video ect.. then they have a fairly strong adhesive on the screen side of the skin, i noticed a post here somewhere about the dangers of adhesive skins on touch screens (i'm not absolutly sure about the dangers myself).
If the shieldzone skin goes slightly under the bezel and is an adhesive skin how can it be removed if theres no edge to see or start the peel back on?
I'd like to put a BSE or IS type skin on the D2 but am a little uncertain about it and want to make sure that the skin that goes on isn't going to cause probs later on down the track :)
anyone know much about the Pure Plate Screen protectors

I'm actually interested about this too. I just contacted shieldzone and they are sending me a second protective screen (though they said this would be the only time they would send it if it I run into another installation error) and I want to get it on right this time. I was curious about their full body shields, but I want to be able to install the screen right, before I try my clumsy hands on the whole body. [blush]

I replaced my invisibleSHIELD because I got finger prints and dust on on the sticky side. It slipped out of my finger tips.
The protective screen only slips under the bezel on the short sides.
I used a #1 X-Acto knife to carefully lift the edge of the invisibleSHIELD by one of the corners and then I slowly peeled the invisibleSHIELD away from the screen.
Took about 15 minutes to get it off.
I am curious about the full body shield. It comes in seven pieces. The entire front is covered by one piece. The sides are covered by five pieces, and the back is protected by one piece.
The one for my Sansa came in 3 pieces and was easy to install, but 7 pieces.

Okay... once your Shieldzone is on and it's all under the bezel, you can get the screen off by scratching a corner with your fingernail. I've done it twice because I had a spec of dirt under it the first time, then I wanted to know if the screen was permanently stuck after a week so I did it again. It's not :)
I've just ordered the full body shield, so I'll report on how its installation goes if no one else has done it by then.
If Shieldzone has made a full body shield for the D2, does that mean the player is popular? [biggrin]

I tried sticking one of these on yesterday and couldn't get it to fit. I would be tempted to peel it off and try again if you think that works. Would you mind telling me, please:
1) did you peel off and reapply the same shield?
2) how did you clean it of dust?
3) how on earth do you get it under the bezel?
4) was it less secure the 2nd/3rd time?
Thanks
1) did you peel off and reapply the same shield?
2) how did you clean it of dust?
3) how on earth do you get it under the bezel?
4) was it less secure the 2nd/3rd time?
1) Yes, a bunch of times on the first day, then 1 more time the next. I had problems with alignment at first, then I later found pieces of dust and a big fingerprint under the shield, so I had to clean it off.
2) To clean the shield, I sprayed the adhesive side about 3 times to get it really wet, then I rubbed the entire shield between 2 fingers to rub off all the dust and fingerprints. When the shield is wet enough, the adhesive won't be sticky. So you can rub the dust and it just comes right off. As the liquid evaporates, the shield gets sticky again.
3) The first time I put the shield on, I had it flush against 2 of the edges, and found the other 2 edges were a little too long. So I peeled it off and tried to center it so that all 4 sides were sticking out - I thought that's how it was supposed to be. It got too sticky before I could line it up right, so I peeled it off and really wet it. I tried to center it again, and found that 2 of the edges slid under the bezel by accident. So I peeled a portion of the shield off, sprayed that area, and laid it back down on the screen, and sort of rubbed/massaged the corners and edges, and they went right under the bezel. Then I lifted the other end of the shield, wet it, and did the same rub/massage thing, and then all 4 sides were under the bezel! Of course the next day I found some dust particles under the shield, so I pulled the whole thing off, cleaned it, and reapplied it to the screen.
4) The adhesive didn't get any less stickier the next day. I think you can safely pull off the shield and reapply it with no worries :)
As much as I used the spray, the container is still almost full
Hope this helped you a bit! [smile]
If the shieldzone skin goes slightly under the bezel and is an adhesive skin how can it be removed if theres no edge to see or start the peel back on?
I've taken my shieldzone off after it's dried by scratching at a corner. The corner comes out from under the bezel, and you just pull off the shield. It sticks really good, but at the same time it comes off without much of a fuss [smile]

Hello Roger,
Thank you for contacting ShieldZone! My name is Katrina and I appreciate the opportunity to assist you.
I apologize that you received an incorrect shield. I will personally reship your shield to you again today via USPS Priority. Please allow 2-3 business days for this to arrive to you. Once you receive the new shield we ask that you return the old shield in a regular 39 cent stamped envelope to keep your warranty valid. Thank you for your patience in this matter.
Thank you for choosing the invisibleSHIELD. We appreciate your business!

It is fine on the long side. It does not touch the bezel at all.
Thanks for your time and consideration.

Wow, that means the few of us that ordered the D2 shields early all got oversized ones. I'm tempted to email them just to get a free shield, but eh... I got it on already. I'm sure all the new shields are the correct size, so everyone else shouldn't have the problem. Thanks for doing the legwork and posting the info!
Actually, I would like to get another shield but, and this related to my next quote:

The full body shield *just* came out, and I've already ordered it... should be here in a couple more days. The full body shield has a piece to cover the screen, and other pieces to cover the rest of the D2, protecting the entire device. If you watch their video demo of how to install the full body shield on an iPod, you'll get an idea of what it is [smile]
I'll let everyone know how the full body one is as soon as I apply it. So Dalmane98, I'll most likely apply the new screen shield, as it's probably the correct size. I'll keep the old one I have on as a backup[smile]

well considering there's lifetime warranty on it and it offers full protection from scratches with no setback in size increase....I'd say it's a pretty good investment to make :P
The shieldzone screen protector is awesome - I wipe it clean with my shirt, or my gym towel, and it comes clean! There's always lint and dust getting inside my D2's clear plastic case, so I figure if I replace the clear case with the full body Invisible Shield, no more dust problems! Just wipe the whole player down every day :)
so it's possible to have the full body shield and clear plastic case?

With the size of the skin does it butt up to the bezel or is there a slight gap?
If there's a gap is it much of a dust trap, does the edge of the skin catch fluff or lint ect?
Thanks in advance [smile]
The entire body of the D2 doesn't really seem glossy. Do you actually need a full body shield to protect it?
Note: I don't have a D2 yet.
I have to vouch for shieldzone on this one, mainly because I like to use my fingers to navigate the menu, and shieldzone keeps the screen clean from my fingerprints! The full body also helps against scratches if you happen to put the D2 in the same pocket as your keys (which I often do).
Installation isn't really as hard as you guys make it out to be. The instructions say just lightly spray the shield. What I did was
a) washed my hands
b) find a relatively dust free area
c) hold shield layer by finger tips and spray both sides
d) carefully lay it down onto the D2, and use the squeegee to press it down and get the liquid out
e) dab cloth around the outer edge where excess liquid came
f) prop up the D2 and let it dry overnight.
Woke up and it looks awesome :)

Yes, the D2 doesn't have any glossy parts on the case - at the very least you'll want a small bag or pouch to protect the player when not in use. Like most MP3 players, the case will show wear and tear with use.
If you get a protective case, it'll really protect the D2. Also you'll want a screen protector [smile]
so it's possible to have the full body shield and clear plastic case?
I'm going to find out when I get the full body shield [smile]

well, having had the new shield sitting around for a while I finally got round to putting it on. It's a perfect fit on the shorter side of the screen but 1-2mm short on the long side. A doddle to fit, however.
I also got the Noreve in Sandy Vintage. Very tasty. Ever so slightly lower quality than I thought and 1 day short of 4 weeks in arriving (that is over Easter, however).
The IS seems really good, but yeah I'm a bit stressed out about the liquid. What happens if I one day decide that i want to peel it off, would the dried adhesive leave any marks?

The liquid is actually a "anti-adhesive" - it lets you slide the sticker around to reposition it without the adhesive on the back of the shield sticking to your D2. There is no residue after it evaporates.
The trick I have found (with Keal's advice) in putting the shield on is to let the surface tension of the liquid "pull" the shield into place. The concept is exactly the same as putting a coverslip onto a microscope slide if there's any other science nerds out there. You basically have a drop of something you want to look at on a slide, and then you touch a thin film of glass to the liquid. The liquid spreads out and as you slowly lower the glass, the liquid pulls it into place over your sample and you get no bubbles.
Spray the liquid onto the shield and then align one edge (bottom might work best), while holding the rest of the shield. The liquid will pull the edge of the shield touching it onto the surface of the D2. Slowly lower the remaining edge of the shield, letting the liquid under it's surface pull it down onto the screen. It's also helpful to smooth the surface as you are dropping it into place. I'm not sure if that helps or not, it's kind of hard to describe.
brianl, you have a great way of describing the technique of applying the shield[smile]
I have to say, once you've gotten the technique down, it's very easy to apply the shield to all your future players. Just remember to spray enough liquid to make the shield slippery, and you can align the shield perfectly by sliding it around once it's in contact with the player.
The IS seems really good, but yeah I'm a bit stressed out about the liquid. What happens if I one day decide that i want to peel it off, would the dried adhesive leave any marks?
While the liquid will be gone in 1 or 2 days after you put on the shield, it's going to be sticking really good to the player. I have no idea if it's going to be able to come off of the screen very easily. Something I should ask Shieldzone - I'm planning to call them with some questions this coming week.
I'll post an update here when I get some answers [smile]

I pulled my shield off after it had been on for 18 days (and smoothed down pretty hard at that) no problem. came off in seconds and was still sticky enough to reapply
After reading all of the Shield Zone posts, I purchased one for my D2. The installation was simple. I had no problems at all. I let the screen protector dry overnight and checked on it the next day. I was really dissapointed with what I saw.
There is a pattern of tiny dimples arranged in a semi-circle about the size of a dime in the center of the screen. It looks like it was caused by a plunger or something mechanical that may have been used in the manufacture of the product. You can only see the flaw when the unit is off, but with all the hype I've heard about the quality of this product, it's pretty upsetting. I also found four tiny horizontal scratches. I'm pretty certain I put them there when I used the included squeegee to get rid of the air bubbles. No, I didn't press that hard. I installed this the same careful way I've done it many times before. I found a flaw in the squeegee. It's possible there is a particle embedded in the rubber material that did the damage, but overall I'm dissapointed with the product. Will I return it? No, not worth the hassle. Will I purchase another? When I'm ready for a replacement, I'll try a different manufacturer. I just wanted to balance out the reviews on this product. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

installation process. Once the invisibleSHIELD has dried, anything
caught on the adhesive side will be permanent.
I hope this helps! Please feel free to contact us if you have any
further questions or comments. Thank you for choosing the
invisibleSHIELD. We appreciate your business!
All the best,

Don't try it (I learned the hard way), or you might run the risk of getting MORE dust particles under there.

After going through three shields and buying 5 vials of liquid thinking I could clean under the invisible shield, I ended up sending my d2 to ShieldZone today ($14.75 via UPS) to pay them $5 to install the shield for me. [no] Maybe I just am no good with these installs.
The two shields were the "longer" ones that had to be fit under the bezel, the third screen fit just right but had lines going down it as if they were scratches.
Kind of frustrated that I ended up investing +$50 (shipping back and fourth, buying the vials, etc.) for a "2.5 piece of super plastic. [cursing] That said, ShieldZone's customer service should be noted for their patience and courtesy.

Oh geeze coldasice, I feel bad for you but maybe you do have clumsy hands and all..... I installed my first invisible shield within 5 minutes and it is awesome. It is slightly bigger than the screen, oh so slightly, and I couldn't slide it under the top bezel but I got it under the bottom bezel.
As some advice, you need to keep the bottom quite moist (spray it a few times) and then apply it so you can move it around while it's on the screen. Then squeegee the rest out, wipe it off and let it sit!
I have to say that I'm quite impressed with the protector. Quite durable though I haven't actually taken a key to it....yet.....ahha. Aside from that it's not that prone to finger print marks though the greasy fingers will be noticable, but it wipes off quite nicely. It gives it a bit of a dull, glossy complexity which I find pleasing but that's just me.
Two thumbs up here!

Hahaha I guess I'm not good with 'delicate' procedures, though my second attempt was my best attempt if it wasn't only for slight dust specs on the right side that made me want to try to clean it off. Definitely impressed with the product myself and the customer service! If it only wasn't for these hands [wacko]
I got my replacement shield yesterday. Installed the new one just as easily as the first one, but again, there are a half dozen scratches that showed up afterwards. On the first shield, there was a pattern of tiny dimples arranged in a semi-circle about the size of a dime in the center of the screen. It looked like it was caused by a plunger or something mechanical that may have been used in the manufacture of the product.
I took more care this time, knowing that this produduct was susceptible to scratching, but no luck. I didn't press that hard either time. Again, the squeegee in the package was deformed, its edge far from straight and smooth, and I believe it contains embedded particles that are scratching the screen, no matter how gently the user strokes the air bubbles away. Maybe they had a bad batch of them.
Their customer service is wonderful—top notch, in fact. But the product just isn't that good. If someday, it becomes seriously scratched, I will use my warranty to order a replacement. Otherwise, I’d just like to forget about it. For the sake of others considering this product, I’d like to leave you with some advice. There are lots of reputable products on the market. If you find anyone making comments even close to those posted on this thread, run, don't walk to find the next product. Do your homework and find something that is highly rated. I hope you all fare better than I did.

I saw the same scratches on my third shield I believe.

I think I know which scratches you're referring to, but I only notice them when I tilt my D2 back and forth in the light, and when the screen is off. Otherwise when the screen is playing you won't notice the scratches at all (at least I don't notice them on mine).....being picky about something that doesn't matter like visible scratches when the screen is off is a bit overkill IMO lol. On another note, looking at the player straight on, with the screen off I don't notice the scratches either =p.
Still a good investment, especially with the excellent customer service and warranty.

Oh I know what you're referring to as well, but the ones on my third screen there were noticeable lines going vertical when the D2 was on. Really annoyed me when I was watching music videos.
I got the ShieldZone yesterday, and I'm going to have to send it back. I've got dust on the inside, and I ran out of the solution midway into the 3rd re-apply, which just made things worse.
Note to self: Make sure you have enough solution for another attempt to apply it before taking it off.
I just hope they allow me to get a replacement due to installation error (sounds like it, from previous posts) and more of the solution stuff.

Hey M4psycho. I understand what you are saying. These scratches don't show up when the unit is on. But they certainly detract from the D2's looks when the unit is off. It's not really that big a deal. I complained, got a new one, tried it again, same story, acepted the fact that the scratches are here to stay, and that's that. I told customer service not to send another. I didn't ask for my money back. I just think our D2 brethren should know what to expect. I have used screen protectors of higher quality. Had they been available for the D2, I'd have purchased one of them instead.
My only point here is this: When a consumer buys a new product, it should look new, if only for a moment. That is not the case here. The shield is scratched from the moment it is installed. If the shield picks up scratches using a soft rubber squeegee, I question how can it possibly hold up in the real world. That said, I'm over it. I just chalk it up as another product that doesn't quite live up to its hype. On the positive side, the D2's screen is protected from scratching. It doesn't seem to interfere at all with input from the stylus or my fingers, and with careful precautions, it'll probably last a lifetime. Nuff said.
I'm curious as to how everyone seems to run out of the solution. I've reapplied pieces of my shield multiple times, spraying both sides and my fingers, and I have barely used any of the solution - it's almost still full.
As to getting dust under the shield, I've had that problem too, and what I did was soak that area of the shield, snd I rubbed and scraped at the dust with my fingernails, and it took all of the dust off.
I think Shieldzone needs to make videos to address these issues, and make it more detailed.
With that said, I'm totally happy with the full body shield, as incomplete as it may seem. I'm not seeing any damage on my D2, so I've gone ahead and ordered full body shields for my gf's motorola krazr and my upcoming chocolate phone (I haven't gotten the phone yet).
I think the squeegee might have some sharp, unfinished edge that may be causing scratches? When in doubt, I'd go with a credit card. But I used the squeegee in applying my shield and got no scratches.
The metal sticker seems to be scratch-resistant by itself, so if I had to recommend D2 protection, I'd go with the metal sticker and the Shieldzone full body shield. A pricey combo, though...
I guess it comes down to a difference in usage. For my next cover attempt, I'd be curious how you managed multiple applications and not only have some left, but most of it.
As for me, I sprayed my fingers a few times to wet them (as my fingers were sticking to the cover), then sprayed the cover itself a few times to wet it. Usually on the first try to put it on, it would stick to the screen and not slide around, so I'd spray it a little more, and that would work. I tried not to do any sprays that I couldnt justify (ie, without this spray, it wont slide around enough), yet I ran out of solution midway on my 3rd attempt.
So, too much dust in the glue and no solution left to either re-apply the dusty cover or try to take the dust out, and I'm left with no solution and a very dusty cover [cry]
Long shot, but maybe there are a few different sized containers of the solution they send out, and you have the larger one while I and a few others have the smaller one? It is a really small bottle, only a few dozen sprays worth or so.

Like Keal, I have a lot of solution left too....the screen size isn't that big so you really don't need to spray more than 2-3 times, and probably once for your fingers. I've reapplied it twice in the same sitting (first time never works :p) and i have probably at least 3/4 of that little bottle left. Sprayed my fingers i think once, MAYBE twice, and then rubbed my fingers together to spread it out about my fingers.
on another note, you said that it's about a few dozen sprays worth or so, and that's quite a number of sprays :P. I probably used about 6-7 sprays for the application so that equates to roughly 6-7 reapplications? I don't know...
Also as a piece of advice for others regarding dust: Go to a flat clean table, in an open area, and peal your shieldzone around there. Try not to wave it around as you'll just be collecting more dust from the air onto your shield. And apply from there....Personally I did mine on my bathroom counter and used compressed air to blow off any dust on the counter and my D2.
Hope that helps you guys!

Hmm...seems like a lot of back and forth - whats the general consensus: Do people here recommend NuShield or Shieldzone?
Oh I know what you're referring to as well, but the ones on my third screen there were noticeable lines going vertical when the D2 was on. Really annoyed me when I was watching music videos.
I also have one of these on mine, going from the bottom (a bit left of the center) up to about 1/3 or 40% of the screen... Depends of the angle but it may sometime alter a line of pixels and it shows but it all depends of the angle/light. (I hope it's not due to the dented edge of the squeegee)
Also, my bottle is basically empty after installing a full body shield... i almost ran out so i tried to save a bit at the end.
They should ship the full body with 2 bottles ;-)
A generally good way to deal with dust issues when you are doing something like this is to steam up the bathroom and do the work in there. The steam will cause any dust in the air to drop to the ground or stick to the walls.
I'm still undecided about what screen protector I will try on the D2 I will be ordering tomorrow, so I haven't tried this yet, but I'm sure it will work if the dust is really coming from the air, and not your fingers or work surface.
Also, make sure the AC isn't blowing for a few minutes ahead of time and while you're actually doing the work. Finally, you may want to put the unit inside a ziplock bag while it dries. Leave the bag open, lying on its side, so dust can't settle onto the unit from above while it is still wet.
WARNING: taking your sensitive electronics into a very steamy bathroom may not be such a good idea, so let most of the steam dissipate before you proceed. If you have the AC off and avoid kicking up dust, the air in the bathroom should remain relatively free of dust long enough for this short task.
Room101, great tips, thanks a lot! I'm installing a Shieldzone full body shield on a Motorola Krazr phone later this evening, and I'm going to use some of your advice [biggrin]

darn I wish you posted this weeks sooner XP
oh well, awesome tips
I did that and it worked perfect! No dust in my screen and the protector.
Either I'm a idiot or shieldzone requires a bit of chance to install. This is quite possibly the most frustrated thing I have ever had to deal with. I'm on my second and I think I've gone through two bottles of the solution in trying to apply this damn thing
There is just too much crap in the air in my apartment that dust/hair is almost impossible to avoid. Plus, when I finally got it to where I want it, I still see on some parts what looks like a wet screen even after it dries. Is this what I'm supposed to be expecting? I expect a layer of plastic without imperfections. I can live with a tiny hair or spec of dust but I can't seem to do anything about the wet look that I'm getting (even after the 5th try)
I've installed Invisible Shield on my ZV:M with no problems. It took a little long to get all pieces correctly aligned, but I managed to get it right. About dust or particles, you could try to install the skin on your D2 in a steamy bathroom.
I hope that helps.
Edit: oops, haven't read Room101's post before... sorry!
Wow, I just installed my shield. It really wasn't that hard. You just have to be careful. Unfortunately my shield has a bunch of lines/scratches running vertical as well. Most vanish when the screen turns on, but there's one big one that actually causes the colours to distort when it's on. I'm gonna ask for a replacement.
so, i'm using a new d2 with an invisible shield, and i noticed that there's some really nice tactile feedback going on, as if there's a millimeter of give followed by a solid stop when i'm tapping on the screen. i'm not sure if it's the shield that's providing it, or if the stock d2 is supposed to feel like that, since the first thing i did after getting the d2 was to slap on a screen protector & silicone skin.
anybody want to sound off on what the tactile feedback, if any, is like with a stock d2, or with the other screen protectors from boxwave, nushield, ebay, etc..?
being something of a tactile whore, i'm really pleased that it turned out like this. now if only i could get it to feel/sound like a model m. [thumbsup]
i should probably add that i didn't have any problems getting the shield on. on the downside, i've got one tiny air bubble that was undetectable until the morning after letting it dry, and a gap on the left edge where the shield was just shy of being a perfect fit. the gap is narrower than the point of the stylus.
mythar, I've installed a bunch of the Invisible Shields and everytime I do it, I get different results. Sometimes I get it on perfect, other times there's a small gap on one edge. I occasionally get a small bubble, too. In the end, though, no one's ever complained that the flaws get in the way of the D2's screen. You can't see the bubbles or gaps when you're watching the screen.
I have the full body shield, which of course doesn't protect the entire D2. Amazingly, it protects all the important parts, and my D2 looks sparkling brand new after all these months!
I'm getting another D2 pretty soon, and it's going to get another metal sticker and full body shield combo job. Great stuff!
As far as tactile feedback, I think you mean the feeling when you press on the screen? There's a small layer of air between the surface of the screen and the actual touchscreen - sort of like a bubble. So that small amount of play is there no matter what touchscreen you use. The NuShield moves around, so the feeling isn't as obvious (I had the NuShield when I first got my D2).
Congrats on getting your D2!
i want to know do any of these have anti glare? im putting on on my 8525, and since its a phone, its kind of good to be able to see outdoors... does the anti glare really help outdoors? for my d2 it doesnt matter and the regular NuShield works fine.
I read that you can mix and match the NuShield, when ordering... since they come in packs of 3? you could get 2 anti glare and 1 regular?
but i dont know about the Shieldzone one, which im thinking to go for my 8525
you know i live in AZ were its always almost sunny ;) so i need to know if i should bother with anti glare or not? maybe even for my d2, but it doesnt really bother me for the d2
what i do like is the fingure prints that wipe of easy on the shieldzone, that is a big problem... for d2 and 8525, esp since the phone is always to your face when talking... you know all the oil heh

I tried the NuShield screen protector. It's supposed to fit in the gap between the screen and the case, but the problem is that the gap is just too tight for the film to fit. Installation is nothing like the the video shown on their web site. The amount of pressure one has to apply to force the film in the gap is enought to crack the screen! I'm sending it back and hopefully getting a refund.

i know it's hard but it actually fits the D2 perfectly, you just have to use the right technique to get it on, it honestly took me over an hour to get it on and i wasted one of them in the process. once it's on though you can't even tell it's there, it's awesome.

I am waiting for my invisible shield to arrive in the mail now. I have used them on my old Olympus player and several Blackberrys. Once on it is great and virtually indestructable. The solution that is now packaged with them I suspect is just soapy water since that is how they used to be applied. They also come with a plastic piece to work out the liquid under the plastic, need to justify the 19.95 price. A credit card will also do the trick. Once applied which takes some patience they are great and I would highly recommend them, they are cut for all types of devices and they will make one custom if you want to pay. The company name has changed from the Invisible Shield to something else, but a google will get you there.[yes]
i had a feeling the invisible shield protectors didn't actually cover the full surface of the D2 like they do with the iPod. have they rectified that now?

hi, forum! this is my first post, but i've been lurking and using other people's experience for a few months now.
anyway, i got my "full body" InvisibleShield the other day, and i'd like to share a few thoughts.
i'm really suprised so many people are satisfied with this. first of all, it's not a full body protector. it's a screen protector with a few more pieces that go on various parts of D2, but you already know that. what i'd like to ask is, how exactly is this supposed to protect other parts of D2 (besides the screen)? it doesn't protect from falling, water, etc. it only (supposedly) protects from scratching, but you're not very likely to scratch hard plastic anyway, are you? so it's pretty much pointless. besides, the look of the shield on black plastic imo only gives it a cheaper look and makes it prone to smudging.
second, the applying. i may be clumsy, but i did all precaution steps (steam, etc.) and still, after i applied the screen protector, it had so much dust under it that it was unbearable to look at. i took it off and threw it away.
and finally, and most importantly, the screen "protector". it's not scratch resistant. just scratch it with your nail a bit harder and the mark will stay. after i took it off, i tried to cut it, the scissors went through like it was paper. i tried to pierce it with scissors, it went through immediately. forget the demo video, it's not like that at all. you can also stretch it, in fact you can do anything to it, it's not resistant to anything. it really feels like a very weak piece of plastic and nothing else. so DON'T try and put it to any resistant tests while it's on your D2, because you will damage your player.
so yeah, i'm very dissapointed with this product and i've decided to stop experimenting and wasting money on products that are not what they claim to be, so now my D2 is as it was when i bought it. if it gets scratched a bit with use, oh well, it will still play wonderfully like it does now.
i hope this will be useful to someone.

I had the exact same experience, except that I chose to keep mine on. I'm really disappointed with the invisible shield. It's definitely not worth the price I paid. I suggest getting a case, such as the Javoskin and a screen protector.
