PSP(PlayStation Portable) have a 4.5-inch, wide-screen TFT LCD, 3D graphics, support for MPEG4 video, and a USB 2.0 port

When you use MP3 or video you need memory card and when you play the game you need new media format called UMD(Universal Media Disc) The 2.4-inch optical discs are encase in a cartridge and hold up to 1.8GB of data

Many games made for PSP but many thing is same to PS2 game and its haveing MP3 and video function ... but it`s difficult

This is bad time to Sony .. Samsung and LG win the sony next year(Samsung and LG was so small company to Sony) Sony said PSP is Walkman of the 21st century.

PSP be the Walkman of the 21st century ... how do you think about it?

PS. i got the Nintendo DS ... it`s so fun^^ but i wanna get PSP

i tink that as a portable gaming devise the psp is basically the best ting out there, and probably will be unless microsoft have something up thier sleeves, which i doubt and also is nintendo make a new game boy (unless the ds is the new gameboy which i doubt seeing as it doesnt use the gameboy name.

i thought sony said their hd players are the new walkmans?

anyway as for the psp being a multimedia player, dont really know how it would be as i havent used one, but have seen some shots of pictures. they look good, and i guess video will be really good too. danno about music though.

the only thing i would use the psp for is for games, and as i dont own a ps2, i dont mind if the same releases appear on the ps2 and the psp.

i personally think the psp wipes the floor with the ds. i think it would appeal to me if i was like 12 with mario games an stuff. anyone seen the advert? "touch me".lol.

btw, i know that the psp can be played via wifi to create multiplayer gaming, however would it be possible to hook up this wireless system to say like a wiresless router or network card and have online multiplayer gaming around the world?

well.. I got a PSP.. I got it the day after the launch day..
it was $300 CDN without games which is kind of pricy for hand-held..
I am thinking sony is not aiming at little kids..
anyhow, PSP is really sleek and shiny. the screen is almost big as M3 itself and it really is beautiful. I have about 2 dead pixels but they are hardly noticeble so I let it slide but many people are getting a lot of dead pixels though.. and this is gonna cost Sony..
people are not gonna be happy when they see dead pixels after spending that kind of money..
I bought the Ridge Racer game.. it is really fun.. awsome graphics..
unrealistic drifting but i love Ridge Racer series..

I watched the Spiderman 2 movie that came in UMD (Value pack)
and it was good but nobody is gonna pay 20 bucks for movies on UMD when they can buy DVD for the same price..
you can watch moive from memory sticks too, but you gotta convert the files into MP4 and it really is a hassle.
buying memory duo sticks is expensive too.. not to mention that there are not that many movies you can fit on 1GB stick..

I think PSP could have been great but gosh sony's own greed (in terms of forcing its own proprietory stuff on people) is its own greatest weakness.

well.. I got a PSP.. I got it the day after the launch day..
it was $300 CDN without games which is kind of pricy for hand-held.. am thinking sony is not aiming at little kids.I couldn't wait and got the Japanese version a couple of weeks ago (supposedly it's region-free, although I haven't tested it out yet), so I paid even more, lol. The games are pricy ($40-50 US). You're right, Sony is aiming at a higher age group than little kids.

anyhow, PSP is really sleek and shiny. the screen is almost big as M3 itself and it really is beautiful. I have about 2 dead pixels but they are hardly noticeble so I let it slide but many people are getting a lot of dead pixels though.. and this is gonna cost Sony..
people are not gonna be happy when they see dead pixels after spending that kind of money..It is nicely designed although the front shows EVERY fingerprint. I would have preferred that the front have the same finish as the back. And what's up with the white wrist strap, headphones and remote??!!

I had read in a review that the screen is very easily scratched, so I got a screensaver cover. The review is right. I would recommend that people get one along with their PSP.

The dead pixel problem was reported when the first PSPs came out in Japan. Sony was supposed to have worked on this problem. My PSP has one dead pixel near the center of the screen. I let it slide too, because I didn't notice it until I had been playing with the PSP for almost an hour. Most of the time it's not noticeable.

I bought the Ridge Racer game.. it is really fun.. awsome graphics..
unrealistic drifting but i love Ridge Racer series..That's the first game I got. I agree with you. It's a fun game, good graphics and a cool intro.

I watched the Spiderman 2 movie that came in UMD (Value pack)
and it was good but nobody is gonna pay 20 bucks for movies on UMD when they can buy DVD for the same price..Yeah, 20 bucks for a movie is a lot. And as far as I understand, you can't hook the PSP up to a PC or TV and play UMD-format movies. Universal" Media Disc, yeah, right. It's a proprietary Sony format.

you can watch moive from memory sticks too, but you gotta convert the files into MP4 and it really is a hassle.
buying memory duo sticks is expensive too.. not to mention that there are not that many movies you can fit on 1GB stick..About $150 US for 1GB. And the latest ones have this "MagicGate" technology that is Sony-proprietary and has copyright protection, which would likely make backing up or transferring files off the PSP difficult. As the blurb says: "The same benefits as Memory Stick media with the added value of copyright protection technology." That's an added "value" I can do without, thanks.

There has been talk that Sony will make blank UMDs available. They are currently 1.8 GB. But I'm sure that Sony would include the "the added value of copyright protection technology"on those as well. Sigh... I thought they had learned from their idiotic ATRAC format experiment.

I think PSP could have been great but gosh sony's own greed (in terms of forcing its own proprietory stuff on people) is its own greatest weakness.Couldn't agree more. I do not think that limiting PSPs sold in the US and Canada to only playing Region 1 movies and games was a smart move either.

The genie is out of the bottle. Why does Sony keep on trying to put it back in? I was all ready to buy one of their portable HDDs from Japan (from Audiocubes) until I realized they were still messing around with ATRAC.

Unfortunately, they are not the only ones. I was looking at Toshiba's Gigabeat G20 player until I realized files put on the player are "wrapped" with some kind of proprietary technology. There are ways to work around this sort of thing, but why bother if it's not necessary?

i recently found out that the psp is region free, only for games though.

as for movies, you cannot play a american film on a jap psp, if i understood it correctly.

i wana see what gt4 is gna be like if released on the psp. thats gna wipe the floor with all racing sim's. but then again there are the others such as colin mcrae 4, and nfs. as for nfs, i dont think its the underground version as its called something different.

i have no problem with splashing out for memory sticks. well i personaly wouldnt as id get my parents to dish out. but not only for psp use. i have a sony plasma joint whcih takes memory sticks, a sony lappy which takes them, a sony cybershort camera which takes them, my dads s700 phone which takes them and im pretty sure if we buy a new video camera, itll prob support it aswel as we will get sony.

yea we like our sony.lol.

as for movies, you cannot play a american film on a jap psp, if i understood it correctly. How confusing. First it appeared that the games would be region-free, then it appeared that they would not be. The Japanese PSPs were supposed to be region-free for movies, but I did some quick checking and now it appears as if that might not be the case. This might also be the case for music UMDs. I guess the MODS community will have to get to work.

only problems ive been hearing about are dead pixels with psps in america. and a hell of alot of them aswel. thats what sony get for shifting so many numbers of these to america. they will hopefully have these problesm sorted for the europe release. i wouldnt want the hassel from a half dead psp.

as for the pictures, psp is looking gooood.

for the past week or two i have seriosuly been considering selling off my 40gb m3, and replacing it with a micro hd player. need to get money for a psp somehow! and i dont want to have to listen to music on the psp, might just be a pain in da ass.

As good as PSP seems I almost added it to my wishlist but not having a hdd put me off. Having to use flash memory cards for media is not enough for me. There are rumors going around that the next PSP will have a hdd of some sort but that will complicate things such as game piracy and the size of the device. Tetris on my pda and the A2 is good enough for me at this point.

Ashlee, i coudn't find any bugs while playing movies.... does ur friend have japanese version?
only problem with playing movies is that the movie files have to be in specific file name.. (and of course they gotta be in mp4 format)

many of u mentioned the need for memory sticks.. and lack of HD..
I agree that memory stick sucks.. expensive.. not enough capacity..
I got 512mb stick for 80 bucks but really, i wanted 1gb...
512mb might be enough for some music though (since most flash players have about 512mb version).

but really, PSP is portable gaming device first and everything else second.. so if i really wanted a portable media player for music and movies, A2 would have been a better choice..

so don't get PSP if u don't like games.. :)

I don't know what to think about the PSP.

On the one hand, it has great 3D graphics, and a great screen. The only problem is that it isn't a good device for playing 3D games. You can only use one joystick/D-pad at a time, so there is no reasonable way to play a FPS on the PSP.

Racing games are probably the best fit games for the PSP, and that may be why there are so many. The problem with not having the joystick on the right side is that you can't change camera angles easily.
