yep - in fact - i was able to install the test film they sent me.
it is even larger then the one that they sent you.

you do understand that the film slips underneath the bezel on all
4 sides, right?

the instruction manual says.. the "cupped" side, or the side that you peel off the sticker is the touchpad side...

I got my NuShield Screen Protectors today.

I ruined the first one I tried to install. Put a crease in it.

My second attempt was a little better, but there was a finger print at one corner so I pulled it off. I am a real stickler for finger prints on the screen/protector.

The third one went just fine. I really do not like the way they are installed.

I guess that is why they sell them in packs of 3. For someone with fumble fingers, like me.

I wrote BSE and asked them if they were thinking about making a cover for the D2 and they said yes.

I asked BSE if it would ruin the touch screen removing their cover and they said, not if you are careful.

Looking at the packaging from NuShield, I am not sure they made this just for the D2, as they list a lot of other devices on the back of the package.

I plan on looking at screen protectors for the devices listed to see if the screens are the same size.

But NuShield is better than nothing at all, for now.

from the looks of the packaging, i think they took existing screen protectors for other devices and cut those to fit the d2s

Dalmane98, they give you three because each film lasts for only 4 months. I really wanted to use this product, but I just couldn't fit it with reasonable effort. Nushield told me that it could be that my particular device was stubborn. Perhaps, but it seems a significant number of people are having trouble with this. To nushield's credit though, they said they are willing to give me a refund.

I am now looking foward to misticjeff's case. Hopefully that one will cover the screen.

I realize that. I was trying to make a joke...A very weak one.

I have a Boxwave screen protector on my Garmin iQue M3 GPS. It has been on it for 2 years and it still looks brand new. I use the GPS all the time. The Boxwave only came with one shield.

Paid about the same for the Boxwave and would expect the NuShield to work as good, since they both make shields for PDA type touch screens.

The D2 should get less of a workout than a PDA.

Exactly, the instructions in the How to install guide is wrong. It should be the other way around. The updated instructions are printed on the plastic bag which the screen protectors are delivered in. Which I ofcourse read...... or not hhrrrm....[blush]

Anyway they are a great company to deal with as a customer and just mail them back and include your invoice number and tell them about the mishap due to their faulty instructions and they will send you new films for free. Or call them which ever you prefer.

The cleaning swipes are the best I ever have tried and when I understood that the film was on backwards it was alot easier to install and looks and feel great on the D2.

man, this sucks to hear so many people having trouble.
i told them that it needed to be cut down in size to get that last edge in easier.
i wonder that since i told them i was able to get mine to work if they actually
cut future ones smaller?

good to hear they are refunding, still sucks though.

Don't feel like that [wink] The screen protectors fits just fine so just hang in there folks. It is a problem with the old instructions. Follow the ones on the plastic bag and you will be fine [smile] And if you like me already screwed up a couple of them they will be replaced. I also got this reply from NuShield

"We just spoke to you on the telephone. As confirmation, we are sending you two films to replace the ones damaged during an installation attempt. As mentioned, please ignore Step 1 of the instructions on the card and follow the Step 1 instructions on the paper label affixed to the film bag. We have some old cards that we are using up and they refer to an older style of film that we no longer use. Please feel free to post this information on the iaudiophile.net forum."

I have a question about Nushield....if there kinda hard to put in place, how hard is it to remove once they are in place?? Without damaging your screen.

Blackroom
03-14-2007, 14:00
I thought that they are not that hard to get in place if you do it the right way. And it is easy to remove them as well. Definitly not damaging your screen but they are a bit hard to get off without damaging the NuShield if you wanna clean it and reuse it.

Go to the buy section, it is a grey button to the right at the top, then choose cowon as manufacturer and D2 as modell (there is only D2 as modell at the moment).

Did anyone else find that you can get the plastic cover much further under the edge of the screen on the left than on the right? After I worked that out it was pretty easy to get it on - do the top + bottom edges like it says in the instructions, slide the left edge as far in as it will go, which leaves the right edge just short of the edge of the screen, then press it flat and slide it to the right until it's under the edge.

Okay! Damaged my first NuShield, and I'm not trying to put the second one on until I get it right with the first one. There's a massive crease that formed on the plastic. That final edge is really long. I tried rubbing the screen to get it more under the bezel, but it keeps snapping off the player and flying into the air.

I think they really need to cut it smaller.

I'm going to give it the old school try and push it really hard under the bezel.

* p a u s e *

Got it to fit! Whew... here's how I did it.

1. Peel off the plastic sheet.
2. fit one of the diamond tips into one side of the bezel
3. fit the other diamond tip into the opposite side bezel
4. Now the sheet should be curved.
5. Gently push the sheet towards the third edge bezel and get it under the edge *just* a little bit.

Now the important step!

6. At this point, the fourth and final edge should be sticking way out and seems impossible to fit in.
Put both thumbs onto the screen and massage the sheet towards the third edge. You don't
have to push down hard, but you have to push towards the third edge hard. You're trying to slide the sheet waaaay
into the third edge's bezel. Keep your eye on the fourth and final edge. Keep massaging the sheet under the third edge
until the sheet is past the fourth edge bezel. It *can* be done, but you have to keep massaging the sheet towards the third edge!

7. At this point, you can wiggle the sheet under the final fourth edge bezel, and you're done.

Most people, like me, damage the screen trying to get the final edge in because we're not putting our thumbs onto the sheet and pushing
it. We're trying not to get fingerprints on the screen, and try to push the sheet from the edge, causing it to bend or pop off, causing
permanent creases. I might be wrong, maybe I was the only idiot doing it that way.

The important thing is, put both thumbs on the sheet and really massage it under the third edge bezel! NuShield doesn't emphasize this point.
It's the difference between getting the sheet in, or having it bend and get damaged.

But it does fit!

Hi all, I just ordered my D2 last night and ordered some NuShields today as well. I was wondering...why does a shield last for only 4 months? My DS has a Hori screen protector, same one for over a year and after sporadic, extensive use, still looks pretty much new(played a lot of Warioware, trauma center and lost magic, among others, but those are the most screen intensive, beat the last two and 50's for all the warioware scores).

What is it about these screens that make them fail in 4 months? I ordered some Duratec shields as well in a hasty moment of sleep deprivation, pretty much just got the first one I found, but I've only seen bad reviews for them(weak, bubbles that don't push out, and bad with finger-grease). I was impressed by the ShieldZone stuff, but I didn't want to spray the adhesive...Perhaps we are just better off spending $7 on a Hori protector and cutting it down to size?

panther926
03-20-2007, 10:18
It's not adhesive. It's simply a soapy solution that helps make it easier to slide the shield onto the screen. There are no adhesives used for the Shieldzone products at all.

keal
03-20-2007, 12:24
I'm using the NuShield right now and it's a fingerprint magnet. Of course when the screen is on, you can't see the oils all over the screen. Only when the player is off. So it's not that bad.

As for the screen lasting only 4 months... I don't know. It seems really durable. My guess is it'll last the life of the player.

I suppose a NuShield on a PDA device gets more abuse because you're constantly tapping it with a stylus. Using a finger on the D2 shouldn't do much harm [smile]

maboroshi
03-20-2007, 15:50
Yeah, I mean I'm impressed by the shieldzone's abilities, just anxious about getting soapy solution into the crevices of my D2.

i purchased the nushield. didnt want to bother with the shieldzone. as an A2 owner, i purchased the SZ for it and if lots of you had problems putting on the nushield, have fun putting on the SZ one. it takes a lot of work and patience to line it up correctly (well shouldnt be to hard since it doesnt have all the extra buttons like the a2).

just to be safe, maybe some of you should check out the a2 thread and search for the shieldzone thread. some people complained about the spray and stuff (you need to wet it). but it does get the job done, covers the screen up so dust cant get in and protect screen. im just apprehensive about the shieldzone for the d2 because its touchscreen.

but again, if you guys have been using shieldzone products before than you guys know whats up and the process for it.

i got my nushields yesterday. took 10 minutes to slide it on. as it says on the packaging: do NOT worry if the shield area looks too big at first, have faith - it fits. HAVE PATIENCE should be step 1.

panther926
03-21-2007, 12:23
I have the SZ on mine. No problems at all. Looks great and even feels better as it's a little more 'tactile' than before.

Oh and I got it on there in less than a minute. I'll admit I am used to their products as every electronic device I own has a SZ screen on it right now. It does take some patience and a steady hand.

maboroshi
03-21-2007, 14:24
What happens to the spray stuff once you get it on? I'd imagine it just gets squeezed in between the screen and the bezel, isn't there some residue? I might swap to SZ if the nutechs wear out on me too quickly

Hi, I've joined this forum since there is a lot of discussion about our products. We initially had contact with one of the members of this forum who asked us to develop a screen protector for the Cowon D2. Based upon his measurments and feedback, we created a film size. After these went on sale, some complained that the film was too large to insert. We have modified the film size so that it will fit on all of the D2's. We have sold several dozen of this new size without any problems cropping up. We will not be monitoring this forum very much, so if you have questions or concerns, please contact us at support@nushield.com. Thanks for listening.

I was going to go for the nushield. I saw one vote for fingerprint magnet and not much else comment. Is there a shield which is not a fingerprint magnet? I'm guessing that any ultraclear shield shows fingerprints and any anti-glare shield doesn't.

I don't have a lot of experience with shields. Can anyone who has the nushield comment on how it looks, for example, is watching video through the nushield as enjoyable as watching naked?

Maybe this can help (you, or others)... I've been using NuShield's for years on my HP iPaqs. Installation can be a PIA or it can be simple & fast. You have to be careful. A few times it took me a quite a while, and I've also done it in about 30 seconds. Very, very smart to read the instructions BUT even better to watch the installation video... A FEW TIMES !!! Then you'll have an "Ah Ha" moment and get it, and just KNOW how to do it right. It really is simple if done properly.

The shields last a good long time. A PDA screen's going to get a whole lot more (and continuous) stylus contact, so the protector can start to show some marks in a few weeks or months depending on how heavy-handed the user is. It's your decision when to replace. Keep in mind though, that the D2 mostly just gets lightly screen tapped. In this scenerio one NuShield can conceivably last for a few years. If you're a heavy notepad user that's something else. It still should be long lasting.

Did you know they make anti-glare protectors as well as the standard clear? I've used both on my PDA's, so... I placed my order a few days ago for the anti-glare. I know they'll be less likely to show fingerprints than the clear.

The D2 has a pretty small screen compared to a PDA, so I expect that the installation might be a bit more challenging. I intend to go back to the video and watch it a few more times before I start.

FWIW; I have absolutely no affiliation with the company. I'm just a satisfied customer, and in my experience; They're a class act.

Last comment (before I forget)... It's common to ruin one screen protector (of any brand). Hell, we've all done it. Some people even ruin two, and OK; Nobody's perfect. But, to ruin all three!!! ??? There can only be two "things" at play here IMHO, (and I'm speaking to the fellow who did ruin three and bemoaned his loss of $15.)

If your shipment was from the early batch that was oversized, just contact NuShield. They'll in all likelihood replace them for you. It goes without saying that you'll always get your best customer service, when you approach a company in a polite and non-accusatory manner. I'm just mentioning this anyway, just in case. [smile]

If your shields were the newer, smaller-cut size, and you still managed to ruin all three; Then it's your own fault whether it be for lack of care or patience or attention to detail, or whatever. I hope the former is the case 'cause NuShields are a fine product, and relatively inexpensive compared to some other brands.

Hope this "helps". This forums a great place and I've learned a bunch here. I don't post much but I like to give back when I can.

Regards,
Robert
