How do you use this, and how does it work? Anyone try them? Are there any better alternatives?

"How do you use this?"
most likely, you put in a AAA or AA battery and plug it into the headphone jack of the D2
"How does it work?"
from the images, it looks like you twist it to separate the speakers, and use the tiny switch to turn it on
"Anyone try them?"
not me
"Are there better alternatives?"
now this is the question - there are many alternatives. the questions would really be:
1. for what do you need it exactly? hotel room? the park? cubicle? office?
2. what is the largest/heaviest in size that you will accept?
3. how much do you want to pay?
I have these and they work extremely well for what they are:

I have these, they have been rebranded from Virgin Electronics and of the 10 or so different portable speakers ive owned these are NUMBER ONE. Only the battery life sucks around 5 hours but mine are hooked up to an ac adapter.

I have the Altec Lansing inMotion iM4 Portable Speakers I purchased at B&H Photo for $63.95 (best price anywhere). They have great volume and bass, and fold flat to fit in a brief case or duffel. They run on batteries or A/C adapter (included). Two inputs are included, a retractable cable and a dual end male adapter. There is a rubberized base (platform) that is a perfect spot to set your D2. Battery life is 18 hours. I highly recommend these speakers. The link below is c|nets review.
