Jetshell (or whatever it is) converts video for your D2, correct? So... it puts it into 320x240? Whats the approximate file size of a movie? A tv show?

And how does it look on TV-out? Surely its too small a resolution to display "nicely" on a TV?

file size for tv clips would be i under 70mb because i have video music/tv shows and movie full clips that are under 40mb and movie clips under 300mb but one thing i havent tried is the tv-out sorry about that but i hope thatthe rest of my information helps you ....[thumbsup]

for example ive got dragonball z - return of broly - original size before converting was 650mb - after converting was 228mb not bad ive now got 27 movies in my Transcend 8GB SDHC card and still going total adding up to just 6.8GB so still good amount of space left. another example i can give you is Hostel the movie full before converting was 790mb after converting was 320mb again not bad so hope that helps you again thankx....[thumbsup]

If anyone could give any info on TV-out quality at 320x240, would appreciate it!

And why has cowon made so much of there things through the USB cable? You have to buy a separate cable for each function for each device... rather than a standard video-out cable for all! :(

I was quite shocked to learn of this slight retardation of the D2, limiting to 320 pixels does really suck, It would look quite horrid on a "big" screened TV

Hey Jason, could you put a brief summary of how you put video on your D2. starting from DVD (a list of programs, the format you end up with between each step, and an estimate of how long it takes.) I want to get started testing 3.40 but i want to have a selection of audio and video content to test with. I used to have an X5 and i used Iriverter to rip DVD's. It was a beautiful thing, i'd pop in a dvd and 45 min later it would be all ready to go. I'm finding myself spending a rediculous amount of time to rip a single DVD using DVD Decoder and Auto Gordian Knot...

ok dude now im alot less busy and ready to summarise... here we go: -

i dont actually use DVD's to upload movies onto or for converting i usually download the movies but takes me a good 15-20 mins because of my broadband speed 8mb/sec but i use the current free p2p programme Limewire which is good if you want can give you good files to post up or something but they are in mainly either avi or mpeg formats when dowloading... when successful i go to the cowon iaudio jet audio programme vx and use the D2 converting video programme i set the default setting which is the D2 AVI default setting for the output of my completed movie file then ends up taking about a good 5 - 10 minutes for the converting to complete when set to use the computers full processor speed (100%) maximum... whe converting is complted the file output is AVi and file size will definaltely be under 350 mb yes 350 mb and under the original file size to begin off with was 700-900mb ... very big i know but hey i got a bigger hardrive [thumbsup] ... but yes thats my way of getting the movies i want from Limewire and using the only programme to convert which is jet audio vx which gives a crisp and precise movie for the D2 and it doesnt skip as in it wont play movies a few seconds later than sound or other way round .... this i can gurantee if you use my method above.... i can send you if you want a smaple movie the Hitcher which or rocky balboa, saw 3, final dest 3 DBZ movies etc if you want jsut to make my point clear in me saying that YES the movies do not lack and are in precise condition apaprt from the only thing the movie picture size will be either these which is kinda annoying but i dont care: 320*184/320*190 etc but all of my DBZ movies are in full screen and so is the FD 3 movie... but i dont use any other re-editing software as i think they usually make the converting alot worse... but hey i hope that helps you dude .....[thumbsup]

Alright, here are the fruits of my labors using firmware 3.41.... first of all, a good way to rip dvds: use dvd decrypter to get the content off of the DVD in the form of VOB files, then skip all the other crap that everyone else tells you to do, and use mediacoder to put the video in AVI 320x240, crop, etc.

second of all. i can confirm that the 8GB SDHC ADATA card on newegg does work.[thumbsup]

third.... and here's the bad one. by videos are TERRIBLY out of sync. i tested with two different videos. one of them i converted using the above method, the second i convientiently had on my computer already in 320x240. the movie looks like it's in fast forward and the audio plays normally.

any suggestions?.....[cry]

A lot of people say they had that since Fw 3.40b...
I hope the next release will fix that...
It can also be a problem with wmv files, they are also out of sync on the D2...

thankx for comfirming that trjepp really aprreciate that but as for the concern over the out of sync movies i just recommend that dont use another editing programme unless needed to edit or re-compress your file, this is why ive tried in the past and had problems untill i trsted out that by just downloading the movie and using only the jetaudio programme it works without sync loss... but hey different peoples opinions at end of day and hey what ever works as well right. but good luck in solving that issue dude .... once again thankx for the testing[thumbsup] awesome

EDIT: one thing though it doesnt seem to happen with the firmware 1.41b only issues with 3.41b and 3.40b wander why but hey im really confused their... no one else has reported problems with 1.41b at moment apart form the pictures issue that im currently having.....

a lot of my video's that worked fine in 2.20 have issues with 3.4x and they are from diff origonal encoder formats... one is mov other is divx and so on... some have bad audio video sync while other i saw video playing too fast O_o and some other ones that didnt work in 2.2 dont work in 3.4 for sure lol, the audio video sync stuff

i am wondering what key or golden settings are there for the audio video sync methods? and what is the real root problem of the player? should probably get some util to analize it and see... dono

Oh my...hope I do not wear out my welcome. I am so new to the world of mp3's that Jason's explanation is like Greek to me. I finally have mastered the art of downloading audio books and am feeling quite proficient. My next move is to tackle some videos, like from the Hulu site, or wherever is recommended.
Could someone point me to a place (am working on thread searching right now) or just give directions in simple 1, 2, 3, etc. format?

Hei Sueterry!
I was following your first steps with audiobooks, as I did it the other way around: I first attacked the video problem, and I will try audiobooks later!
I tought I would have lots of problems when I first landed on this forum, but everything went fine, never had any serious one! This is probably due to the fact this forum is so helpful, thank you everybody again!
Be "careful" about this thread, as it seems quite old... I would say lots of things changed since then.

I am using three programs to convert my videos, depending on the source:

DVDFabPlatinum - for all my DVDs to D2. one click conversion button and ready for the D2! - can also extract to harddrive for further processing (this is the "pro" version of DVDFab Decrypter)

iLove - you have a very nice thread in this forum, under video and subtitle converter for D2 (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15620). I use it to convert videos which I already have on my HD, or to process the above DVD files to get the subtitles the way I like them. You can also use it to directly process your DVDs if they are not copy-protected. Otherwise you will have to first decrypt them.

D2video converter - simple drag and drop (http://iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=15977), also in this forum.
You will find in this thread different profile examples ready-to-use to suit your needs. You can also use it to directly process your DVDs.

Here you go, hope it helps... you will find all the help you need in the above threads, I guess.

Hello 'monday-friday':

Do you mind sharing the settings for the DVDFab mobile option you used to convert your DVD movies?

I just bought a Cowon D2, but it will take a week or two before I get it. Meanwhile, I have a lot of DVDs that I would like to watch on the D2. I can start the process of converting if you can give me the correct profile option to use with DVDFab5, will 'Zune' profile option work?
Thanks
