Anyone taking their D2's off by ejecting it (as opposed to pulling it off or safely removing it) ?

I always eject the device. Not a good idea not to cause you can corrupt your FAT.

I can attest to this fact, but it depends. The whole reason for the safe eject function is to warn you if the PC is still transferring data between the device. Unlike other devices, you are not limited physically to disconnect the device whenever you please. If you yank it out when it hasn't finished doing something, you can screw up the storage. I have a Creative MuVo^2 and previously I had problems with the USB connection on my PC. For some reason, transfers used to seem to stop all of sudden and when I tried to safely disconnect the device (i.e. eject it) it would say it was busy. I had no other choice but to yank it out. I did this a few times and eventually when playing a song, I would hear for a second or two, another song that I had put on there before. It was annoying to say the least. I ended up putting a dummy file at the beginning so as I could bypass a corrupt data section on the disk. So, the moral of the story? Take a a couple of seconds to safely disconnect your precious D2!

When you are unable to eject the device shut down the computer and then when it is off un plug and reboot. This does happen sometimes.

So to clarify, are you guys Safely Removing or just ejecting?

If you have write Caching on as most systems do you should eject the device. If you've turned off Write caching then you could unplug it.

Windows doesn't as a rule enable Write Cache on removable drives as default.

if you have trouble, you don't normally have to shut down, you can just log off and log back in again. windows will close the connection when you log off and when you log back in, you can use the safely remove icon.

So once again, I'll ask the question.

How does everyone disconnect? Can anyone right-click on the drives and do an Eject? Or is everyone Safely Removing?

Is anyone just pulling the player off without using any of the above ways? How reliable is the loading / unloading for you in that case?

i left-click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the tray then left-click the device. it shows as two drives - d2 and sd, but as one choice. has worked flawlessly so far.

i use safely remove hardware, but i thought it was interesting as sometimes it well say that the D2 is disconnected, but other times it will not. anyone else experiencing this?

Lolz, it seems like I'm the only one that I just take my D2 out without doing the "safely remove hardware" or anything. Btw, I haven't been experiencing any difficulties from just yanking out my player, but I may have to start safely removing my D2 out because of the things that i just read in the multiple posts abov me.

how do you "eject"?

In My Computer, just right-click on the drive, and then select "Eject".

i just unplug it :P i know i stoped moving files when its done i give it a few sec then just unplug it... i did that always with my iaudio 5 and never had any problems... but right now im just using the sd card i dont think i put anything yet on the 2gb internal O_o so with the d2 i havent been pluging it in much at all via usb... just use my 4gb sd card

boy did i have some issues with that sd card... i think the memory card reader screwed something up and one of my usb headers/hubs or whatever is dead, that or maybe the pc just crapped out on me... lucky i have lots of them on this mobo m2n-sli delux ;)

so i wasnt sure if it was the sd card that screwed it up... or the card reader or pc... anyway the sd card was soooo slow and it had issues i think the card reader or that usb was flaky and thus when i formated and used the sd card it screwed it up... after one day the memory card reader did not work O_o i found the problem and now reformated the card and all is ok lol... man i love computers </sarcasm>

naaaa... i just do whatever is simpler and thatsssss.... pulling the damn cable outa the usb socket... i mean ive been doing that with all my hardware... but i dont reckon it crashes or corrupts your player or card etc... i know this because i experiment with this stuff but no if ive been doing this for alot of my time then i wouldnt be saying this [biggrin], but microsoft dont actually say that it can corrupt data but convey that the fact of using the "safely remove hardware" procedure is to prevent the USB port from resulting in an corruption(basically it wont F up the external hardware, but can cause damage to the internal USB port on your PC/Laptop) had that problem with my laptop and the USB port died [biggrin] but hey hardware can be replaced...right

read this : - http://support.microsoft.com/kb/817900/

but it does definately NOT corrupt EXTERNAL HARDWARE unless ejecting before data has finished moving from location to location[biggrin]

HOPE that HELPS...[biggrin]

if im wrong in any way i applogise ... but please let me know would greatly appreciate that but at moment i trust in what i do and what MS say.
