Fixed in firmware 2.46

So, almost all my files were in id3v2.4 before I got my D2. Turns out the D2 can't handle them and displays weird Asian characters instead. This thread is meant as an explanation of this 'bug' which will bound to be encountered by other people. Here is a pictorial guide:

I took two files, two songs in my library, and changed the tag types. One is id3v1 + id3v2.3, the other is id3v1 + id3v2.4. Then I put them on my D2 and played them. Here is the result:

The two files in Mp3tag:

The first (id3v1 + id3v2.3 tag) file:

The second (id3v1 + id3v2.4 tag) file:

As you can see, you will have to convert your id3v2.4 tags to id3v2.3 in order to use them on your D2. Mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/) is the program I used to do this. I hope this situation will be addressed in future firmwares.

P.S. This was using fw2.21.

Same problem with my U3, seems a Cowon 'standard problem'

Perhaps, but it's also very very very not free. I prefer mp3tag (http://www.mp3tag.de/en/) since it's 100% free to use and also works very good.

I recently noticed this as well.

It really needs to be dealt with by Cowon.

As I said in my first post, I use mp3tag, there's a link to it as well.

i'd recommend foobar 0.8.3 special edition. you can edit tags manually one by one or add tags tu multiple files. you can get tags from freedb etc.

I recommend "The Godfather", is the best tag editor and audio files organizer.

You missing the point here, guys.

Mp3tag is recommended exactly because it lets you choose in which format to save the tags - v2.3 utf-16 or v2.4 utf-8.

And what about linux? How to change ID3tag to version 2.3? Does upgrading firmware solve the problem?

Seems the 2.46-update has fixed this. I can't tell if it was like this with previous firmware since the first thing I always do when getting new stuff is check for new firmware, but my D2 reads id3v2.4 like a charm.

I've edited my 2.4 tags to 2.3 ever since I posted the first post (using FW2.21, now I'm using 2.46), now I don't have to any more. Good fix by Cowon.

I checked that and it's still not recognizing 2.4 tags but it recognizes 2.3 though.

2.4 tags appear to be working with firmware 3.50b.

I checked that and it's still not recognizing 2.4 tags but it recognizes 2.3 though.I'll test it later as well.

Edit: tested id3v2.4 tags with firmware 2.46, working like a charm.
