OK, so I bought it based on it's ability to self database.

How to make it show up in databased mode? I can't see Album, Artist, Genre, etc. Just the folders.

I'm sorry but you cannot browse by the ID3 tags at this moment in time. It may be implemented in future firmware updates though. (It has been discussed in the improvements to firmware threads as well as other places)

Shameless plug (again, sorry) but if your files are in a mess then try Mediamonkey to sync your D2. You can easily set it up to organise files into a file structure which is convenient to you. I have mine set up as Artist -> Album -> Songs which is essentially the same as browsing the artists in the database mode of other players. You can add in Genre etc if you prefer browsing by that. It might help tide you over until we know for certain whether the ID3 tag databasing is going to be developed.

On a completely seperate note however, I've just ordered my D2! Should be here tomorrow! Can't wait [biggrin]

I use j.River Media Center which I think is better. File tree never worked for me. Not versatile enough - I don't consider a player without a database a music player. As for forthcoming features, with Cowon's record all I can say is 'I'll believe it when I see it'.

This is a big problem. Why did the original respondent misinform to a really simple question, and why didn't anyone correct him? If the answer had been 'no' the D2 wouldn't have been in consideration...

Self-databasing is planned in the next firmware which shouldn't take long to come out.

Yeah. That's what they said about the X5 :(

I've PM'ed Keng regarding his posting of misinformation, and edited the erroneous information. My apologies to anyone who was led astray.

As far as "ID3 databasing is planned..." well, yeah, I agree (eyes his X5 and its lack of "promised" ID3 databasing).

Well, it's a flash player, with Telechips CPU, and that makes it somewhat similar to U3.

And they added ID3 browsing for U3.
