Wow talking about failing batteries already, but i guess it will happen one day as these batteries dont last forever. It looks like it can be by the way as in another thread someone has taken it apart, you just have to source the battery

Now that we worried so much about it..
We'll see 2 or three years later, many more products would be even better that our D2 and maybe cheaper. So probability= we are going to upgrade to something else. OR cowon might sell the battery at high price which make it more worth to buy a new player.
Anyway, it's just my opinion tho. . .

It's not an iPod...
so I wouldn't worry so much, but still an interesting question... ;)

Doesnt have to be an ipod, Iriver and even in cowon products it will happen as the batteries can only be recharged a set a number of times

between 1000 and 5000 charge cycles, make sure you get every once of power out of it before you recharge, but considering the 52hour tech manual battery life and the 45 hour real battery life, i would consider that 45,000 hours is alot of time, 5.2 year to be exact, which would be the calculation if you charged it only when empty and no battery degradation occured,

considering a lithium battery loses 10% capacity per year due to permanent reaction, the battery is still expected to last around 3.5-3.8 years

now, considering you will probobly charge it half full at most cases, the battery will still last around 2.5-3.0 years,

and thats using the 1000 charge cycle limit,

lets do the same math with an ipod,
1000 cycles, 14 hour battery life, 14,000 hours, 1.6 years if there was no battery degradation, add battery degradation, 1.3 years, add charging battery when its not compleatly empty, 1.0-1.1 years,

take in to consideration that this is NOT absolute time, this is playtime.
