View Full Version : Weird quirk - has anybody else noticed this?
Hey gang, I was just listening to music while walking outdoors (A2 in my backpack) and it froze on me.
Tried to use the remote to restart it, no luck.
Took the A2 out and hit the back button, then play - music started playing again but the entire right half of the screen appeared "negative"
(eg black -> white, white -> black).
Turned it off, booted again, was happy.
Has anybody else had such a weird effect? I wonder what caused it - the cold, someone (-thing) bumping into it, the remote going,
the headphone jack going, me pushing too many buttons too fast - or a dying A2? [no]
nope...never happened to me_yet_. :( man this post and the one before this (cos of the BL) are scaring me! i donno wats going on! i think i', never gonna even try to play games on the A2! :P
btw, formatting the HDD has improved battery life a little..not back to original though. :(
Happened to me one or twice with previous firmwares. As far as I can tell it was just a random occurrence.
Thanks 802.11mdr. Interesting to see that I'm to the only one to have experienced this. BTW, it hasn't happened again (yet?).
I've never had that happen but I do have an mp3 track where if I try to play it the A2 freezes every time.
happens to me quite alot when my player overheats..
mine also randomly turns off now and again [help]
Also happened to me, had the A2 in my pocket while listening to music when I pulled it out half the screen was like you said "negative" and very hot. It never locked up though it was still playing. I shut it off and let it cool down for about 10mins and was back to normal. I now try to leave it out of my pockets for long periods while playing and it hasn't happened again.
Hmmm thanks for the testimony brewdog52.
It makes this whole thing a bit more puzzling since it was definitely NOT overheating that could have caused my problem.
My A2 was in my backpack, plenty of space around it and on a COLD day.
Do you remember anything else you did just before it happened?
Maybe we can pinpoint the probable cause for these symptoms...
I don't recall doing anything other than turning it on and stuffing it in my pocket, it was also cold that day (around 25f). I had it zippered up in my insulated pockets, when I pulled it out the backside of the A2 felt excessively hot so I assumed this was the cause (kinda puzzled me though why it was exactly half of the screen). It's also possible that I unknowingly bumped it or leaned up against it[unsure]
Another thing similar has happened two me while watching a movie though, the A2 locked up while fast forwarding and I had to hold the power button down for about 5sec, then my wallpaper flashed while shutting down and it was all negative (the whole screen). I know for a fact that it wasn't a overheating issue (it was on for about 5min) or from being out in the cold weather this time.
I should add, when I pulled my A2 out of my pocket it just showed my wallpaper (half negative) but was still playing music. Don't know if this makes a difference but my wallpaper at the time was a 717.83KB 700x350 bmp file and I was playing a mix of 320kbps mp3s & 1.4Mb pcm wav files and the movie is 608x256 Xvid 1180kbps & AC3 448kbps (maybe to much at one time for the A2?) now my wallpaper is 480x272 18.26KB jpeg and only play mp3's and flac, I don't know but maybe I was overworking my A2(I'm no expert).
Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what I did either.
I do know that switching from movie to music mode relatievely quickly (specially in the case of MPEG1) makes the A2 crash.
Well, it looks like there is *something* that can cause the A2's screen to freak out.
If anybody notices this happening, please take note of what you were doing at this time! Maybe there is a hidden bug somewhere?
