It is heavier than I thought it would be. But, it is NOT heavy. The weight comes from the battery which runs the entire length and width of the player, and almost half it's thickness. This huge battery is where the crazy battery life comes from.

As a general rule, earbuds are not very good for quality sound production. Sennheiser makes some ok ones. But, you're better off going with some IEMs. If you want to do some research on good head/earphones, then I strongly suggest you browse the forums at head-fi.org. It's addictive, but they are very nice and can help you to find the best headphones for your money. I am browsing there all the time.

At head-fi there are 2 pairs of 'phones which CONSTANTLY get really, really good reviews. People there are amazed at the price to quality ratio for these. They are the Koss KSC75, and the JVC marshmallow IEMs. Both can be had at a Best Buy or Radioshack for about $20 US. Both are considered to be flukes, because they sound so good for the money.

I recommend avoiding buds since there are so many better options out there.

Hope this helps! [smile]

If you're really into listening to GOOD music, I strongly suggest making an investment into buying some nice, REAL IEMs made by etymotic, shure or super-fi...I picked up the Shure E3Gs for roughly 120US shipped, from ebay, but if that's too much for you the next step down would probably be the etymotic ER6i's for roughly 90-100 shipped from ebay....
www.headphone.com has some good reviews and breakdowns of some of the best IEMs out there. There really is a huge difference once you get used to them, and you won't go back to regular buds =p

i currently own the ATH-A500 which is good enough for me, but i'd like some portable ones other than the one cowon provides

i think i will go ahead and get the Koss KSC75, very portable and it has gotten tons of reviews (thanks nrwilk)

The KSC75's are amazing, the fact that they are so cheap is incredible, you have to dig a ot deeper to get headphones with the same quality as these :)
