The 4GB D2 was recently reviewed on cnet asia. It scored 8.4 which puts it up with the best mp3 players reviewed on the site.

The only bad points were the fact that it lags on pictures (come on?) and that the radio is kinda poor sometimes.

I have to agree about the Fm tuner...all the cowon's have horrible fm tuners. I have other small handheld units with fm tuners and they all blow the cowon tuners away...I wish Cowon would put a better quality tuner in there products. I hardly ever even use the fm tuner because reception is so poor. To me that's really the only gripe I have about Cowon products.
I have this little tiny portable Philips/Nike tuner that brings in stations great.

Can anyone say how the sound quality is, in comparaison with the X5??? [rolleyes]

i would say the sound is on par with the X5. I wouldn't pick one over the other.

As far as the FM tuner goes, I don't know anyone who owns a portable mp3 player that uses the FM option all the time. In my area, the FM tuner comes in handy in the gym - there are many television sets with different programs on each, and you have to tune in to certain stations to listen to the audio for each TV. Since each TV broadcasts their audio right there in the gym, you don't need strong FM reception to pick up the signal.

Other than in the gym, I don't know anyone personally who actually listens to radio stations. If I were doing a review of the D2, I'd bring up the fact that FM reception doesn't need to be THAT strong :)

hmm... not true Keal... Some of us wouldn't even BUY a Mp3 player if it didn't have this opinon (cough*ipod*cough)
in any case if cowon adds all these nice opinons with the FM, why not make the quality recption sound better?
I use my u2s tuner alot... but its sometimes crummy aonnying recption takes me off using it so- thats ok, I did buy it because its an mp3 player but still if your gonna do it, do it right

The iPod now has an optional remote control with an FM tuner but I think it's around $40 - 50.

I use the FM tuner on my iRiver constantly just to see if there are any new and good indie bands to get music from. The sound quality from that FM tuner is great, it is clear and has bass.

Again, I believe that the FM quality on the D2 may be because the RIAA doesn't want us being able to record good quality sounding music. They tried to get Creative to get rid of the FM tuner on the Zen Vision:M but it was restored to the 30GB one and the 60GB is without a tuner.

On a minor note, I'm now more inclined to download music off P2P because iTunes screwed me again. I Found some nice tracks to buy but when I was ready to buy them a few days later (right after the iPhone release) they're not there or the search function returns nothing. Apple sucks again!

a crazy theory. I don't think thats the case for the D2. Fm tuners seem bad all around with cowon products... which is fine... but crappy... they need to install better tuners in there newer products

However, While that may not be the case with cowon (how can it be? South korea is way the hell over there, RIAA is over here. We have to import/online buy mostly to get our Cowon products) Creative is a different story. I remember some firmwire for the TX FM, my former player, had an update that actilly took AWAY the fm recording feutre. Recently though, they had another update last month that added it again, so who knows with creative?

and whie I'm on the topic. Cowon can sure learn a lession from creative. THEY'RE STILL updating a 3 year old product... while cowons slumping with the u2/g3... I know that theres still mistakes to be fixed with it (like that record something then your playlist goes haywire thing they said being fixed is NOT actilly fixed.)
