It's a beauty. Didn't take too long to get comfortable with the touch screen & menu. It's a little heavier than I was anticipating, but not so much so that it will pull my sweat pants down when clipped to the waist band while I'm at the gym.
The sound is supurb, which is the main reason I buy Cowon players. I have Etymotic ER4P headphones. Someone asked about driving higher quality headphones. These are 27 ohms, sentitvity 102 dB @ 0.1 V; 106 dB @ 1mW
So they're pretty easy to drive.
When I first transferred the music from my U3 to the D2, the id3 tag info (album, artist, song) were in Korean. So I opened up the files in MP3 Tag (which I used for my U3 because of the v2.4 support) to check and it was fine, still english. So I re-saved the tags, tried it again in the player, and still came up Korean.
So I re-saved the tags again using Tag&Rename and now they are displaying correctly in English. I thought maybe it was a fluke, so I tagged another album in MP3 Tag and sure enough, Korean. So it's back to Tag&Rename.
I'm still playing around with the SD card. I didn't buy one yet. I tried an old 128mb Sandisk I have just to check it out. mp3's and videos work fine. I can't seem to get any pictures to show up. The pictures are ok on the internal memory, just not the card.
Also, someone mentioned pictures are blurred if they aren't re-sized to 640x480. That's true if you view them in Wallpaper mode. But if you use the Slideshow modem, even large 8MP pictures are clear as can be.
And the factory shipping screen protector is just fine. I just cut off the tab where you're supposed to grab it to pull it off, so now it lays flat. It's clear and mostly bubble free.

Great! Thanks for the info...please let us know more about this player when you can...:)

So far, the information for at least one song comes up in Chinese. I'm gonna try retagging it tonight.
As for the shipping screen protector I thought about leaving it on, but I can't seem to make it "mostly bubble free" now, and it's a little dusty.

Is it v2.3 or v2.4?

My D2 just arrived yesterday, the 25th! I debated whether to wait for the 4GB to be released in the US or not...and I'm a tad impatient so I went for it. There's been a couple reviews already here that are accurate but I just have to say WOW! I've been testing out various PMPs and DAPs and this is without question the very best!
It took me a few hours to find the perfect compression method but now that I have it, the video and audio is FREAKIN unbelievable! At first glance you think "this thing is far to small to enjoy video!" But once I turned it on, played their video..holy cow. Created my own file...AMAZING! Its surprisingly comfortable to watch quite a lot of video and because of how they built the audio out...a nice pair of headphones really gives deep solid sound.
The chief complaint that I have is the JetAudio Basic transcoding software. I chatted with someone there about this and they said that the FREE software was all I needed. Unless I was doing something wrong, they lied. I could only output 30 seconds of video with their "FREE" version which is absolutely ludicrious! So, I had to spend the 30 bucks to buy the full version of their software. They should have just added this software into the entire package, on the CD that comes with the device. $199 is enough they could have included the software at no cost. So, I do feel a little decieved by this...but the product is so freakin cool from its form factor to absolutely brilliant video and dynamic sound that I don't feel like fight'n about it. :)
Any questions, fire away and I'll do my best to answer those that haven't bought one yet.
Oh, and I could have saved $10 by purchasing one for their Ebay store that popped up! (Ebay Link (http://cgi.ebay.com/COWON-D2-2GB-Black-PMP_W0QQitemZ160078014380QQihZ006QQcategoryZ73839Q QssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem)) Oh well....still worth every penny in my opinion.

wow...thanks for the info...
I have a question no one seems to talk about much:
How does the tv out work? What kind of connection is it? I heard that the tv out cable is not available yet...but they show a pic of it on cowon's site..
Can you see or do you know where that tv out cable plugs into on the D2?...I believe it's next to the usb connection but I'm not sure...Thanks

It's on the same side a the USB port, there is a latch that you open to expose the ports.

If I had to make an educated guess, it will be a mini USB cable that plugs into the same jack as the mini USB to computer. But I can't say for sure.

Well, that is curious. Are you running the latest version of the software? Also, how is your source file encoded? Perhaps I am adding some sort of encoding to my source file that is triggering some licensing issue in their basic transcoder..that was my only thought. In my testing, to get optimal resorts with near perfect picture quality and audio to video track sync'ing, my source files into the JetAudio transcoder are MPEG files at their native size and as uncompressed as possible. So perhaps it has to do with the MP3 plugin for JetAudio..not sure. Anyway, it sucks but my vids are absolutely stunning on the D2. Everybody I have shown this to are just absolutely floored at the quality of the video and audio.

Wait till you encode some of your Erasure vids on this thing! Stunning. Anyway..to your question...I have not seen any indication that you can switch the GUI to a portrait mode. Doesn't mean I haven't overlooked it but I think I've been into all screens of the interface.

Ok I told you before that the answer to that question was already posted on this forum. Well it wasn's it I got the answer on another forum. Heres the answer:
You have to download Jetaudio VX (http://www.cowonglobal.com/zeroboard/zboard.php?id=C08&page=1&sn1=&divpage=1&bmenu=download&sn=off&ss=on&sc=on&select_arrange=headnum&bmenu=download&desc=asc&no=238&bmenu=download). Then you have to go to preferences -> autoupdate -> check for latest update. It will then update to version 6.2.8 and then it's supposed to work.

Yea JetAudio VX Basic 6.2.8.9938. I'm not sure how my source file is encoded

Wait, so... a screen protector does come with the COWON D2?
Wait, so... a screen protector does come with the COWON D2?
The typical film that most devices come with. Its bubbled up and really only meant to protect inside the D2 packaging. within a week or two, it looses its stickyness.
On that note, I have talked to the peeps at ScreenPatronus (http://www.screenpatronus.com/). They have added the Cowon D2 to their lineup but I'm not sure what category I click on to order it. I'll add another note and let everyone know. I pretty much use these guys for everything now. I like their product a lot and does not effect the touchscreen. Hopefully that will continue to hold true for the D2. I'll be back with the category link to order from them.

I'm guessing that it's made of plastic? (the frame part?)
How about the side part? Is it metal?
