off the topic of all the hype over the x5 and a2.....gowd i just want them to come out, but yea.

anyone seen the gizmondo.....the reason it may not be a success would be to the fact that the sony psp will probably take over the portable gaming scene...well thats what i think....

Tried to get some info, but their main site doesn't appear to be working. Didn't see any pics anywhere, but I didn't spend a great deal of time looking.

As far as the US market goes, Gizmondo will be released here sometime in the spring. PSP is being released here March 21, I believe. Bad timing. Sony's name recognition and the success of its regular Play Station will help PSP a lot, I would think.

Couldn't find many specs about Gizmondo but check here: http://www.geek.com/news/geeknews/2005Mar/bga20050307029450.htm). Although it seems as if it will have lots of features that PSP doesn't, is its screen really only 2.8"? I see that as a problem. And the fact that it apparently has so many features may be a problem. Will they all work well?

It will be interesting to see how it does in the UK. I will be looking for reviews. In the meantime, I'm waiting for my Japanese version PSP to arrive this week. In spite of a slightly higher price and the fact that PSP will shortly be available here, I liked the idea of a region-free player--at least for the games. As usual, Sony's added lots of restrictions. But I'm currently looking at PSP as more of a cool gadget/gaming device right now, anyway. Memory sticks are still too expensive. And I can't really see myself buying movies that can only be played on PSP.

this is what it looks like. the website seems to be up again.

the psp will rock as portable gaming is concerned. pictures of games just look so dam good on the thing.

the gizmondo does have a hell of alot of features including a camera. i also think its a phone as it comes with a prepay simcard. i think it will be a flop like the neogeo...only heard a lil bit on this portable and then it seemed to vanish.

how much are you picking up your psp for then nipper. you getting any games with it? lucky to be getting one! let us know how it is. region free is wikid cos i dont think there will be any way of coppying these umd's. atleast it means if you went to another country, you could still buy a game from there, as long as you can change the language to english or whatever it may be.

apparently memory sticks will be getting cheaper, just dunno by how much. and there aint no need to play movies on the psp..just leave the thing for gaming which is what it will be wikid at...and music if u can find a 1gb duo going for cheap.lol.would mp3's be converted to atrac?lol. would be nice to know.

edit: dam you americans and sony. sony want to fulfill americas demand which means that the european release may get delayed for months! not like id have the money to buy one streight away but stillllllll :)

Will have to check it out. I suspect they were getting the site ready for the large numbers of hits it will probably get when the gizmondo becomes available.

I'm waiting to read some in-depth reviews to see how well they all work.

It might be a flop. Although I think I read that half a million units had been reserved in the UK? They do have several months to push it until PSP come out in Europe (in June?). It's $399 US, $599 Australia, 229 UK and 349 euros. Units shipped to the US don't have a SIM card, which is evidently necessary for the unit to work(?)

So, more than the US version will cost. Yeah, that's why I wanted region-free, so I could get games not available in the US. Don't know if it's region free when it comes to movies, but I don't really care all that much about that. Haven't been able to find that out. I'm pretty sure the US version is not region free. At least that's what I've read everywhere. The UMDs are protected with 3 levels of protection, so no copying unless/until someone figures out how to get around it.

I've heard memory sticks will be getting cheaper too. Hope it's soon. A review at engadget.com said that music was mp3 only, although I don't know if Sony adds anything to the files as is done with its HDDs. I guess I'll find out. But I checked the US site and it said music files on sticks could be ATRAC or mp3.

Doesn't seem like a smart move, business-wise. Perhaps they just couldn't make them fast enough.

well psp will be out on March 24 here in NA..
they say only one million units is set for initial release..
the price is a little high at $350CDN thanks to stupid Wayne Gretzky Hocky bundle in Canada.. I hate hockey.. I don't want a hockey game damn it..

It is still tempting.. even though u gotta buy memory sticks..
I heard that the output is really low for it to be used as a portable music player..

The gizmondo is out in UK, I walked past the shop on Regent street, but in a rush so didn't have a look....maybe next time I'm there.

Bad news is that the psp is delayed for its release in europe...seems our american friends are demanding too many from sony, and not enough to go round :)
