The D2 only plays WMV3 for video? Kind of a let down...

Yes, you have to convert all your videos before they play on the D2.

what is so bad?
I would convert my videos anyway for smaller resulotion to save memory...

Yeah, I suppose theres nothing wrong as long as JetEffect can handle whatever I throw at it, which I suspect it will.

AVI : MPEG4 ~ 2Mbps, 320x240, 30fps, MP3 audio
WMV : WMV9 ~ 768kbps, 320x240, 30fps, WMA audio

MaxSt - thanks for the info. Where did you get the specs from?

So the D2 will definitely play XviD-SP encoded videos? Good to know... WMV only would be a tragedy.

From here:
http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=293

It also says:

* APE will be supported by future firmware upgrade.

Nice.

I guess you could try the latest jetAudio video converter and see...
I can't try it myself right now...

as stated above, the D2 plays .avi and .wmv. But not just any old .avi and .wmv. You must run your .avi, .wmv (or .mpg) file through their JetAudio transcoder and export a D2 compliant .avi or .wmv file.

I'd be interested in hearing everyone's technique but seems .avi's play back the best on the D2. I am using the Cowon D2 AVI 512kbps preset which seems to work best. when i tried the wmv preset, the audio and video tracks would fall outta sync in playback.

The Cowon D2 AVI 512Kbps preset kicks out the avi as an XviD+MP3 file. You could go into the Output Settings and change that to a DivX + MP3 file if you wanted to but XviD really are looking perfect.

How does one get the extra sharp quality comparable to the quality of the 30 second D2 sample video? Anyone know the best way to achieve this? (btw, the videos that are currently on my player were downloaded from the net, and not transfered directly from tv or DVD, if that makes a difference.)

Thanks!

Yes it because you got them off the internet...if you get them off a dvd they will be just as clear as sample vids..

No problem...btw when you watch the videos online that is the best they will be when you put them on your D2...if the source file is bad quality on your pc then what you put on your D2 will be the same.
It's kinda like if you have a song that's at 128kbps and then convert that song to lets say 320kbps...well the song will still sound like 128kbps not 320.

Does anyone know if I can convert the videos on youtube to avi or something that the jetAudio can use?

You can convert youtube, google, ifilm, etc. videos to .mpg using Riva FLX Encoder (http://www.rivavx.com/?encoder). You have to change the .flv file extension to .mpg in order for the encoding to take effect. Once the file is converted to .mpg you can convert to .avi using jetAudio.

It may sound like a lot of effort, but it works.

I've downloaded some google videos using Riva FLV. When the encoder prompts for file extension I choose .avi. Then I convert using Jet Audio. The output quality has been excellent thus far. [thumbsup]

*I should mention that this works with Google videos that have "google" in the URL.

Yeah DAPmagic I've done this many times...you can do this with youtube and many others but for still many others it doesn't work...plus youtube quality is really bad..I'd rather not even have them..
Another program I use that's really awesome and you can do it with any video on the screen even the ones that don't work with "flv" "riva"...
AutoScreenRecorder is great for that...it records any spot on your monitor that you want...with no loss in quality. I recorded a video on amazon of Norah Jones "Rosie's lullaby" live....it really worked awesome...I'm gonna look around for some more I really like.

You'll have to use jetaudio first than you can drag and drop if you want or you can have jet send it directly to your D2.

I saw Lost with subtitles on the bus last friday, and I could see it perfectly.

You could use something like mencoder. But yes, as long as the videos are compliant, they should work.

Oops! I meant to say Keepvid (http://keepvid.com/).

So far I've downloaded Everybody Hates Chris, Little Mosque on the Prairie and the BBC Documentary Space. Audio and video quality is excellent on all. Space is exceptionally good because of the special effects and sound. [thumbsup]

I've been using Clonemobile and AutoGK to Convert for awhile for my Zen M, I have a pretty extensive TV show collection. The Files all fall within Cowon's Specs and they also play on my A2
