View Full Version : English Site has D2 Up
http://www.cowonglobal.com/product/product_D2_feature.php
Good old D2 is up on the global site.
Good to see that it comes with an Ac adapter.
Not so good that it doesn't come with the tv out cable and line-in cable.
Apparently it has been selected on Cnet's must see list for 2007 from CES 2007.
Also the APE support will be added via firmware

Huurah! does this mean the arrival of the D2 in the UK in iminent?
Im sure should we need to use the tv out function there woud be a spare cable kicking around anyway. Unless of course its a strange input/output :S ?

now its up on cowonamerica. looks like this beastie will be available very soon. at least the 2GB version.
Pixmaina have both 2gb and 4gb models in white and black up for sale on the 26th Jan 2006 in the UK.
2gb = £172
4gb = £212
D2 has been on the Cowonglobal site for a week now.

You know, all pixmania websites from all europe are expensive for the d2. On the *.be site, they r selling it for 263€ (the 2gigs version)!
Btw, I contacted Grupare from ebay, and he said its coming next week in the States.

i have a 13gb music collection, and while i don't need most of it, it'd be good to have more space, so i think i'll have to wait until the 4gb release. which unfortunately looks like it may be a while.

A 4G Flash drive is not state of the art. Why do we have to wait that much longer for 4GB of storage in this player? It makes no sense to me. I can justify waiting for 8GB as these chips have only been around a short time... 4GB chips should be readily available... One can get 4GB SD flash cards in stores already. I wonder why COWON can not get a hold on 8GB Flash drives that are now available in the iPod Nano, the Sandisk Sansa 280 and soon to be available in the next Samsung YP-T9B and the new YP K3? Most likely they're is limited availability of 8GB chips and their price is probably at a premium. Oh well, it nice to have the SD card slot for expansion, but given that this baby is being marketed also as a "video" player... the more native memory it has the better. 2GB of storage just doesn't cut it for this caliber of player.
I was actually waiting for the D1 (i6 with DAB and 4GB of Flash memory) but it looks like COWON has given up on that device. The D2 looks like the logical replacement for me.

^i could not agree more. it wasn't until the past few months that Cowon decided to start using 4gb chips. it's ridiculous that Cowon is taking so long to implement them, then offer them at such a premium.
the 2gb is slated for a $199 release, which means that the 4gb will most likely be $249 at release.
for comparison, you can get most HDD DAP's brand-new for $249. You can also get the 8gb iPod Nano for that price. And in recent news, the Creative Zen V 8gb will be available for $199.
wow.
yikes.
not as if im planning on purchasing anything not by cowon, itd just be nice if the d2 had more memory for normal pricing. i mean, granted, the player crushes the competition, but it isnt very well competition if capacity and pricing are way off.
regardless, the instant a 4gb version appears i will be purchasing it.

It seems the D2 arrived in UK on http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk
The d2 4 gigs is for 258€ (179.99£), and there is a two gigs SD card for free!
link here (http://www.advancedmp3players.co.uk/shop/product_info.php?currency=GBP&products_id=2066)
And the 2gig version is at £149.99 also with a 2 gigs SD card.
[thumbsup] That's really good! [thumbsup]
but it is out of stock [sad]

It is not out of stock, they just dont received it yet. It will arrive there on 24th and 31th January respectively for the 2Gb and 4Gb versions.
well lets hope they stock the black version as advertised, i then noticed the "while stocks last" on the free Sd card.
Is anyone going to buy now? or buy on the day?

That's the sharpest price ive seen yet. They sell the sd card for £35. Since almost everybody can use that sd card it means that the 4GB sells for the same price as the 2GB version at other shops.
well..it's nice then..
unfortunatly with the italian taxes (20%) i will arrive near to the pixmania.it price [cry] ..i will only gain the 2gb SD card..argh..i wish there weren't any other taxes...

Why there is a tax? I dont understand because normally there is no tax between countries from European Union. EU is a free trade zone!

Yes BETWEEN EU, but not between Asia and EU
For all the 21 years living here, I never realised the UK was in asia [wink]
I think BaT86 meant buying it from www.amp3.co.uk and shipping it to Italy.
EDIT: In which case, UK VAT is already included in the price at 17.5%.

i emailed Cowon America yesterday on release dates for the US and got the following response:
Both the 2 and 4 GB versions of this player will be made available soon. The 2 GB model should be available in a few weeks, no word yet on when exactly we get stock on the 4 GB models.
Thank You,

if it doesnt come out before march, i'm going to cry.
jetmall has the d2 up under flash players, but no specific page for the d2 http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWCATS&Category=18
There is no reason Cowon cant get ahold of 4gb chips at low cost. Look at this: 4gb flash drive for 20$ (http://www.buy.com/retail/Product.asp?sku=10381026&adid=17662&adid=17662)
Seriously.

while you're here, would you care to drop a clue to when the 4gb is coming in?[smile]
i have to say, i'm pretty tempted to just go ahead and buy the 2gb version and the 4gb memory card. it'll hold about 1000 songs, which is pretty good for me.
im holdin out for the 4gb.
ill probably buy the noreve case soon, though. just so ill have it.
I would buy it if they would ship to different addresses from the one on the card since I am at school right now. Although I now have an excuse to hold out for the 4gb.

Has it been confirmed that D2 will only come out in black and white colors in North America?
If it's true, it would be quite a shame since the additional three colors that Koreans get is quite attractive.
I would really love to have the lime colored D2 with Olive Green Noreve Case or with any other colors. Just think of the possibilities...

nothing's confirmed, but i wouldn't expect them to spend the money to bring the colors to the US.

they should be on ebay in next few days and those guys will ship anywhere you want.

I gave the X560GB a shot -and got burned, but I have to say this D2 looks pretty sweet. I will hold off until the 4GB is out, the only thing lacking still is AM radio.

I am very much looking forward to this new cowon player, and am one of the few people who doesn't need much more than 4gb's of space. But I was shocked to see the price on this item...$200 US for the 2gb model. I don't know...i may have just been hoping for too much, but a 2gb priced at $200 US seems a bit much for me...even though it does have all those features (not to mention touchscreen). But I was wondering if anyone could confirm...is that $200 with or without the line in and video out connectors? If these are included with the player at $200, what would the price be without them? Thank you for all your input.
Oh and one more question...the news on this in the past claims 45-52 hour battery life, but I recently heard that the Bat life is now a claimed 30 hours...once again, can anyone confirm?
It looks like the line in and video out are optional http://www.jetmall.net/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=293

well the thing is, when I bought my iriver ifp 799 2 years ago - it was £140. I know things have come along since then though. Its just a case of waiting until a few dealers have it, especially amazon - then it will slowly drop in price as the sellers compete.

I would love the red one. I think the red and other colours are for DMB D2s
I hope i'm wrong because i cannot use DMB in the UK.

But you get an ac adapter, which apple and creative charges Us$30 plus for so thats a positive, re the battery life it all will depend on the bit rate of your files/ power on and offs, number of times you change songs, lcd viewing etc
I imagine it will be about 30 hours with initial use, (usually battery life gets better with proper use and recharge cycles) including the bit-rate and lcd on/off variables you mentioned. but even that much is leagues above the typical DAP available now.
the recharge time is stated 3.5 hours with the A/C adapter. thats typical for a high capacity Li-Poly battery.
Any idea other than 'a few weeks' for the 4gb?

I know cnet said that cowon said a month or 2..but from my experience when cowon says a month or 2 it's more like a couple weeks..
Such an unnecessary time frame. There probably is a reason, but I doubt it's a very good one.
Ah well, worth the wait, I suppose.
The price tag is quite the turn off.... Ill have to wait to see how much the clix2 and w10 from iriver are priced before I make a purchase...
hopefully by then the price of the d2 will have gone down..

Advanced mp3 players in the uk has it for 179 uk pounds, sure it will be cheaper in the usa

Also I have a question about the touch screen:
Will you be able to use a clear film over the screen? How will that effect the touch screen?

i actually read some posts on a korean forum from d2 users stating that they received protective films as promotion gifts. so it should be very safe to assume that touch functions are not altered by the presence of the protective film over the screen. [biggrin]
