Hi All,
I'm planning to buy an iAudio 5 for recording lecutres. I heard several recordings already, they sound pretty good to me. My question is: how long can I record at the best sampling rate with 1GB memory? My classes are usually three hours. Thank you!
Jonathan
shouldn't be a problem.. u got 1GB..
ex. 128kbps is about 1MB per min..
Doing the math... I get minutes 129 minutes of recording at 128 kbps assuming you have 990 mb of memory free
huh? i don't get ur math.. approx. 1 mb for 128kbps
for 990mb u get about 990 min.. which is like 16 hours
that number is wrong. 128kb/sec = .128mb/sec = 7.68 mb/ minute. so obviously 128 kbps is doesn;t actually mean 128 kb / sec
128 kiloBITs, not bytes, there are 8 bits in a byte.
128/8=16KB a second, or 960 KB a minute.
If it were 7.68 MB a minute why are 4 minute songs at 198 kbps around 5MB? ;)

yea, the SI metric system doesn't apply to bytes. ;)

Thank you, people! :)
Yeah, so 128kbps is .96 mb/ minute. So going witht he fact that you have 990 mb free, thats 1031 minutes or 17 hours and 11 minutes.

I decided that I will go for 512MB version. A little more than 8 hours will be enough for my use. And it saves $50 dollars. Thank you for all your input! :)
