Lately it seems I have been having problems with my battery. However it isnt that the battery isnt lasting very long, its that when the indicator says it is at about half charge, when I try and access the HD to play a song normally right after startup it will shut off and say low battery as in searches the HD. Sometimes it will get real close, as in the bar will go to the flashing as if it was really dead, but after the HD is done being accessed the bar will go back to half. I know the bars arent always very accurate but this still seems odd. My X5 is about 9 months old
Have you tried fully discharging then fully recharging the battery to recalibrate it?

well after playing mp3's nonstop in order, the battery lasted around 4.5-5 hours :(
My x5 battery acting like that too. Tried the total drain but didn't help. Battery apparently can't withstand the load of the hd anymore. Either stuck getting Cowon to replace [cry], buying a new x5, or R&R'ing the batt yourself (with help of some threads here). Am going to try & replace my batt with ipod 3g battery i got lying around. Shuld be no prob with the fit, but the mah. is only approx 3/4 of old iaudio batt. Hopefully will supply pwr. for at least 3-4 hours of use, until can find more suitable batt.

If your X5 is under warranty, contact customer service via Live Chat at www.cowonamerica.com/support. I would be concerned about premature battery failure or a more serious internal problem.
You could try a battery reset, though I don't think it will help. Plug the AC adaptor into the X5, push and hold the reset button for a second ot two and leave the unit charge overnight.
