This will be very interesting if Cowon will release an update for their players to support AAC+. Being a dedicated M3 owner, I am interesting in getting a small flash player to take around with me. The D1 is ideal along with the DAB Radio, but WorldDAB have confirmed it is going to take on AAC+ codec as the new standard. I won't get the D1 unless it gets AAC+ support over DAB.

Would people want to see generic AAC/AAC+ support on their Cowon players?

I think this would be the right move if possible because no other portable DAB player supports the DAB AAC+ standard yet. Cowon could get a step ahead in the UK market.

I could see myself getting a player supporting DAB (if I hadn't just bought the iaudio 6) since Swedish radio are sending some of their channels in that format. In general I think iaudio should try to support as many codecs as possible, and use the feature/codec support as one of their main selling points. I dont think they will ever touch ipods mass appeal, so its better to go some other way.

I totally agree, and I think they're doing well at it so far.. there's still bugger all other companies supporting ogg, let alone flac! keep it up cowon =)

I'll second the call for AAC support for DAB. I was all excited about getting the D1 until I found out about the recent DAB developments. While we're at it, would it be too much to ask for Band L support as well? [cool]

Just had a thought. Doesn't the D1 support MPEG-4 video playback? And doesn't MPEG-4 use AAC for the audio stream? If so, then doesn't the D1 in theory already have an AAC decoder?

Not really. You can tag along MP3/WAV/OGG audio to an MPEG-4 file (XVid/Divx). If you place a AAC audio stream in, it probably won't work.

Anyway, Cowon would have to release a firmware update to get the AAC/AAC+ to work. Also spend money getting a license from coding technologies that supply the codec. Possibility? Not really, but we'll wait and see.

I am really looking forward to this baby! 4Gb + ogg + DAB is about eveything I have ever wanted in a DAP. Yes, I am worried about AAC+ (or DAB+ as it is known in other countries) support. Hopefully this can be supported by a firmware upgrade later on.

Most contries in the world have decided to give up on the original DAB and launch new services on DAB+ see http://www.digitalradiotech.co.uk/ so if Cowan are looking for a world market for this device they will have to support it.

It would be nice if some insider at Cowon could re-assure us (do they read this forum?)

Anyway, I have already placed my advance order!

Has anyone heard, or confirmed the rumor that the D1 will not be released after all? You may have seen this post in this forum called; 'd1 not being made?!'

If anyone has any information regarding this then please reply with your thoughts or findings.

Thanks.

I had an email today from advancedmp3players.co.uk stating that wasn't being manufactured due to 'estimated sales targets' they pointed me at the cowon global site for more info, but I don't see anything there about it at all. It's a shame, I'd still have bought it, even without aac, as the UK market won't need it for a while.
