Hello all,
I do not participate in this forum like I wish I could, but I have been in the desert for 18 months, and Internet usage out here is extremely slow at best, and very minimal in time usage, so I use it for more important things like emailing the family. Anyhow, I have had my X5 60GB for almost a year now (had it shipped to me last year around this time), and it is the best sounding player I have ever had. Anyhow, I digress, since my space was really beginning to dwindle, due to the numerous FLAC files and 320 MP3s, I have decided to convert all of my files to OGG. Well, I have done several files, and am actually quite impressed with the sound quality, with one exception. There is a very noticable pop at the beginning of each track. Is anyone familar with this, and possibly know how I might get rid of it? It can be quit annoying, especially when my E500's are cranked up. Thanks in advance for any assistance you might provide!!

Never heard that (db poweramp).
What transcoder/converter are you using?

I am using Total Audio Converter. Is there a better one I should be trying? I do not know if it is the converter, or not, but I am converting the songs to ogg 44.1mhz Q5, so as to keep the files smaller. Should I try different settings, or a different converter? Thanks a lot!!

Well, I tried the converter with Monkey Audio, and not only did it get rid of the pop, but it is much faster as well. Is there a particular qaulity setting any of you prefer to another, keeping the file size down somewhat, and still getting high quality audio. 7 Appears to be working well for me, and although it will not allow me to recoupe as much space as level 5, it will still allow me to recoupe some. Thanks again!!

I enjoy Ogg Q2.

By "converting", I hope you mean from FLAC to Ogg and not from mp3 to Ogg. Mp3 has already been encoded once, and so loses sound quality when "converted" to anything.

I've found BeLight to be a pretty good converter. Ogg Vorbis with -q5 quality setting should be transparent (= indistinguishable from the original) for most people.

MadCow, 608zz, and Subterranpilot: Thank you all for your help. My conversion is going well at this point, with no noticable pops beginning the songs any longer. I found that even with MediaMonkey, there would be a less noticable pop, unless I convert to Ogg 7, and the pop is totally gone. I don't notice any sonic difference between ogg 5 and ogg 7, however. Thanks again!!
