my X5 fell last night and think I have possible hard disk problems. It takes a long time to start and windows xp does not seem to recognise it. I ran a seagate test on it and it showed a lot of bad sectors.
Any advice on what to do?
TIA

might have to do that - get some weird "path too deep" errors sometimes when copying music across. chkdsk shows some bad sectors also and the fix option didn't change that.
Would a full format be of any use?
Also am in Europe and bought from an ebay seller in the US. Should I contact Iaudio in US or Europe?
Can't hurt to try formatting it, but I'm not sure how you'd do that if XP isn't recognizing it.
I'd say you should contact Cowon Europe since they're closer...they can always refer you to Cowon America if they're more appropriate.

Path too deep errors generally indicates a hard disk problem. Reference the following thread - http://www.iaudiophile.net/forums/showthread.php?t=9531&highlight=path+deep

ok - XP back recognising the player -(eventually loaded and I did a quick format)
Scandsk and MAtxor checker both show some bad sectors. I can mostly copy data onto it, some times "deep path" error and need to restart both X5 and XP after this.
I read in the news section that Cowon Europe is now gone (except for Germany,Swiss etc). I have contacted the bay seller(is a Cowon authorised reseller) and asked them what to do.

Keep a close watch on this problem as you may be looking at a premature hard drive failure. Definitely get it repaired or repaced while the unit is under warranty. Definitely let us know how this saga turns out and who performed th eservice on your X5. We hear a lot about the horror stories of Cowon support in Europe.
