View Full Version : Pressure on the screen

Hi,

I've just received my replacement A2 (the 1st one crashed all the time).

This one is extremely sensitive to pressure. When I push the buttons, or if I grip the unit (not touching the screen), I see circular discoloration similar to poking a TFT monitor.

Is this common? Did I just not notice it on my 1st one? Am I being too fussy? Shall I post a picture or video of the problem? Why is the sky blue?

Any advice appreciated.

i think the ppl at cowon forgot to put back on the rubber protector around the hard disk. i would use only the remote control(if present) if i were you. or else stop using it now and send it back.

I see this too but only when I am touching around the screen front or back. Is this normal? It doesn't happen when I grip it around the bottons

Yes. You don't want it going dead in a few weeks, just send it back now.

I tried registering on the cowon website so that I can report this problem and request an RMA, but the server hasn't sent me a verification email and their website wont let me log in but says my email is registered...what is wrong with theit website.

Have you checked your spam folder? Some people have reported that their email provider blocks Cowon's email (I think gmail is included in this).

yes and it keeps spam for 30 days untill it is automaticly deleted, and nothing is there. I went ahead and emailed the tech_support email given on the warranty card.

Such a shame I got such little play time before I have to send it back. I geuss it is a hit or miss with refurbished products. Luckily there is still a warranty.

The email from the tech_support game back and redirects me to their tech support channel where you need a username to enter, and I've registered yet not gotten my activation email.

Yours not using hotmail by chance are you because many sites struggle with hotmail so if you are try something else.

Yeah, there have been a few reports about gmail blocking Cowon for some reason.

[mad] Well I am not so quite happy with Cowon, as I got an email back regarding my request for an RMA, and they told me that this was normal, yet the lady who responded to my support ticket told me this would need to be fixed and sent in for repair. How come nobody there can give me a strait answer? I want to know if my unit will die in a few days becuase of their failure to warrant my repair. How can this be normal when even pushing on the back of the unit causes the same ripple effect in the screen. I am not very happy with Cowon right now..... [cursing] [devil] [help]

Maybe your description didn't sound much different than a normal description of the screen. If all you said when you submitted your RMA request is that you see a ripple when you tough the screen, then they could have told you it was normal. The better the description the better the chances that they will understand your exact situation. Try submitting another request and be more detailed.

I submitted a more detailed request just a few mins ago, the only thing that worries me is that my problem might be "normal" to all players, because I've not owned one of these before so, am I overreacting? I mean just pushing on the screen or the back of the unit causes the ripple effect, is it just mine and do I really have a problem? I just don't want to be going through all this trouble for nothing if they get the unit and say that it's normal and send it back so then I paid for all that shipping for nothing and wont have my player for a couple weeks.

All I can say is that with my unit, no matter how hard I try (but obviously I don't want to punch it either!),
I get NO ripple whatsoever by pressing on the screen or on the back.

When you think about it, the A2 has a clear protective plastic plate over the screen
so it should really not respond to pressure. By comaprison, an Archos AV500 will be
touch-sensitive because there's nothing over the screen...

Now, I can't judge how serious that problem is. Could be that your unit works fine as long as
you treat it carefully - but do you really want to risk breaking it?

Nah mate, I think there's really something wrong with your unit.
Don't let Cowon brush you off, in my opinion it's a clear case of RMA!
