View Full Version : U2 USB connection problems!

just bought a new U2 1GB model. I charged it with no problem and loaded it with some mp3

songs, again no problem. It works great, plays the songs fine. All the menus work.

Everything works fine. I went to connect it to my XP computer at work and it would not

connect. Computer did not recognize any device being hooked up and the U2 did not show

anything on the screen. So when I got home I tried again on my W2000 computer, the same

thing happened. No connection, no response. Again the player still works fine itself with

playing what is stored on it right now.

Does anyone know what the problem could be?

I tried hitting the reset button. That did not do anything that I could see. Can someone

explain the purpose of the reset and how long should you hold it in??

Does anyone think running the battery down to zero would help or fix this? I had read on the

IAudio forum about someone doing this.

I changed the charge mode from normal to long to nothing. Had no effect.

I changed the auto-power-off to OFF and that had no effect.

It came with firmware 1.30a already loaded. I couldnt upgrade it anyway with no USB

connection.

I can't think of anything else to try. Does anyone have any ideas?? I am at a loss as to

what else i could try!!

I should mention I used two different USB cables when connecting to the 2 different

computers.

thank you for any help you can provide!

IAudio recommends in their manual that one use the USB cable they supplied. You mention you used different USB cables, have you tried just using the cable IAudio gave you?

Try pressing the resetbuttn while the player is hooked up with the computer.

You could try attaching U2 to computer and running the Add Hardware wizard to see if the computer can find the device.

wow thanks for the replies!

Yes I have thought about the USB cable I am using. I have not used the cable that IAudio supplied because I already had a proper cable with the appropriate mini-connector. This does not seem like the issue because I used my existing cable to initially charge the U2 AND to load all the songs onto it that I have loaded. It does not seem to me that it would matter which cable as long as the connectors fit on both ends. Does that seem logical to you guys? I should mention I also tried using the little mini-to-regular adapter plug that comes with the U2 , and that did not work either.

I think I may have tried hitting reset while it was plugged into the computer, but I will try that again. Question, do you just hit the reset button quickly or do you hold it in for a few seconds.

That sounds like a good thing to try , to run the Add Hardware wizard. I will try that this evening. I will let you know how it goes.

Does anyone else have any ideas? Soon I will have no choice but to send it back, but I will try to contact IAudio tech support first.

Oh another thing. Is there any limit or suggested limit on how many songs you should load into one folder? I have quite a few songs loaded onto it, but all in one single folder. Do you think it would help to try and create a number of sub-folders first and seperate these songs into the sub folders?

thank you!

A quick press on the reset button would be all. I think you can just about 'feel' the click. I know all the factory settings are restored so you could change a JetEffect and check it again after reset.

I don't think there's any limit to number of songs on one folder (beyond memory space). For convenience I have subfolders anyway. Nicer to have organised content since to find a particular song would have you scrolling through the big list.

in general i always hold down the restebutton for a few secons, 10, to make sure its really resetted.

i had a router that didnt work correctly. pressed the resetbutton but it didnt work. tried to hold it down for a couple of seconds and it helped. noticed that all my computerdevices needed the resetbutton to be pressed down for a couple of seconds. so now i always holds it down to make sure its really reseted.
