http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/01/cowons-n2-successor-to-the-a2-throne/ [thumbsup]

"Now Windows CE 5-based, the Cowon N2 features a friggin' massive 7-inch 480 x 234 display (with a 500:1 contrast ratio, and 420cd/m² brightness), 500MHz AMD Alchemy processor, 128MB DDR2 SDRAM, 32MB Flash memory, built in SiRFStarIII GPS, DMB video, dual SD slots (à la the Tapwave Zodiac), USB On-The-Go, 4W stereo speakers, AV and camera ins, FM transmitter, IR, and the usual extensive codec support (MP3, WMA, Ogg, ASF, AVI, WMV, DivX 3/4/5, XviD, MPEG-4, video up to 720 x 480 / 30fps). You're not going to get all this without sacrificing space and weight, though; the N2 weighs in at a hefty 540 grams (1.2 pounds), and eats up 191 x 120 x 26mm (7.5 x 4.7 x 1 inches) -- nowhere near the smallest overachieving media player around." [excited]

But what kind of HD does it use?

No HD at all. This is just an interesting device for the Korean motorist. Like the Garman and other GPS devices sold in USA, it has some DAP and PMP features tossed into the mix.

was gonna say the same, 7 inch is too big for the average persons pmp imo and you need your built in memory... its sort of like a pmp/tablet pc hybrid thing lol

How about...my A2 does everything I want, and I can't recommend it without knowing more about what it will do (and how well it will do it) in the US, provided it's ever even sold here.

Too big, no HD>>> No interest.
Bummer. Because I'd like an A3.
Hopefully it's coming out soon?

yeah i saw that. but i think that is what happens whenever you are connecting it to some devise which is the host and not the A2. e.g. when u are using another A2 as the host? am i right? guessing here

scarpad this is not a 'successor' to the A2 as engadget puts it. it's a device which is targetted at different people. i think the A3 will be MUCH more interesting!

Yep. But wonder if they have the n2 access the data from a A2...

with the news about 'much better' CPUs in them i wouldn't be surprised if they could do that. it would be really cool actually. does this give a hint of future pmps to be able to support exteernal USB HDDs? hmm...

Actualy the only feature I would trade in my A2 would be a solid state storage version. 16 or 20gb would be fine. The reason would be for almost instant on and power consumption.

Hum..... Some of the CF carts are getting up in size. So with some glue logic and two 8gb CF carts could a fully non HD A2 be possible... 8GB is under 200. So a 16 would be about 400. But look at the possiblities. Shock and instant on.

EDITED:

Ok would take two of these....

And since a CF connections are basically HD ATA would be a intersting test.

i can't remember what type of memory card i saw some days back built by samsung that would go upto 64 gigs.. if those are coming anytime soon we would be saying goodbye to HDDs forever. but for now 16GBs of CF would have to do(as if it's not enough :P).
btw does anyone know if Creative ZV supports these huge memory CFs?

I guess its gonna be perfect for daddies who need something to brag about and have in their car along their already highend dvd system in the car. Serisously im having a hard time figuring out who the target customer is.

The blue rim especially is totally obnoxious.....

I hope cowon will consider or atelast lend their attention to my mockup design of the new a2. Does anyone know where i could send a whole design concept? i already contacted cowon thru the busines2 mail..... havent heard anything yet.
