Any chance these will be implemented into iAudio's Rockbox anytime soon?

I can hear both with rockbox.
Come on, be a bit more specific because bass & treble alone can mean so many things.
Do you mean that other rockbox ports have a special bass & treble function?
The iAudio Rockbox port has a parametric equalizer that tops the original one.

They are specific funtions for Rockbox on other DAPS in the Sound Settings menu.
Sorry, I wasn't being vague on purpose

Those control hardware DSP bass/treble on other players; I'm assuming the iAudio audio chip doesn't support hardware bass/treble adjustment.

As madcow said, the parametric EQ can do the job just as well in software.

Thank you for the answers. I wish there was an easier way to adjust such settings easily without having to start fiddling with the eq's again that's all. Do you think rockbox ever will match the original fw beefy sounding bass output?

It'll never be able to duplicate the BBE stuff that the original firmware had. It's licensed technology, not just something the coders need to figure out how to use.

The EQ is flexible enough that you should be able to get the low frequencies as boosted as you want. The BBE stuff probably does more elaborate processing which could theoretically be done in Rockbox but would require reverse-engineering and the effort to write the code. Even then there might be legal issues with patents and whatnot.

In reality, most Rockbox users are audiophile types who prefer 'pure' sound not messed with by gimmicky processing. Therefore don't expect artificial bass boost type effects anytime soon.

I still prefer the sound of the original firmware over rockbox. The rockbox eq easily distorts. I guess that's what dualboot is useful for.

I used to prefer the original firmware's sound over Rockbox, but I've tweaked my equalizer settings to produce my own "perfect" sound, and that's it. I never listen to music with the OF anymore!

To the original poster, check out this thread for more on custom equalizer settings:

It's true, the equalizer really is flexible. You'll just have to get used to not having the old standard bass and treble meters. But don't bring that up on the Rockbox forums - they're likely to get offended if you do. [wink]

No, that is what the Precut setting is useful for.

...What *is* the difference between a bass and treble adjust and the high-low shelf filters set to the same frequency?

I personally LOVE the fully functional equalizer. It's not that it takes more fiddling to get it how you want as opposed to simpler controls (just don't mess with the freq. cutoffs or Q settings), it's that with so much more flexibility, you end up wanting that much more out of your sound. Just finding an EQ setting that I like has made me pay much more attention to what the music really sounds like.

I think someone should just write a "Parametric EQ for Dummies" page (someone much more qualified than myself). If there was a page explaining what each setting adjusts, a few sample presets to demonstrate, and maybe even a few audio clips as examples, I bet a lot of people who think it's just too complicated would warm up to it and realize this is one of the most important features of Rockbox.
