Hi

Tis is a brand new A2 and I just started adding a huge amount of files, audio, movies etc. Since it was taking a lot of time I left it alone, As i returned I found a message in my computer say ing that the last movie could not be copied due to a 'cycling redundancy error' I pressed O.K. and the whole system was very slow, I tried to close al windows but wasn't able to safely disconnect the device so I unplugged it from the USB and rebooted my computer.

Ever since this the A2 boots and gets stuck in the 'file system initialize' section.

I resetted it several times and after trying several times to "see it" in the computer I found out that the device now is seen as a 'Local Disk' where before it was 'Cowon'

Now I decided to format hte hard drive and as it is formatting it has taken 20 minutes to get to 2% of the format.

Anyone had this problem before? I think the Hard Drive is gone... Any help appreciated.

Unfortunately I tend to agree that you've got a bad hard drive..you can try giving the format some more time, but...well, good luck.

do you have a motherboard supporting USB 2.O? cos formatting an external hard drive in the USB1.1 can be really time consuming. you should have waited to remove the A2 'safely'. it takes some time after you put in a lot of stuff using USB 1.1. but it does happen evntually. i never copy a lot of stuff at a time using my old PC which has USB 1.1. and always remember to use the USB ports at the back of your PC.

the solution:get access to a (friends) PC which has a motherboard supporting USB 2.0 and then format the A2

I agree with mssx. Check your USB connection before you panic!
FYI in case your computer only supports USB 1.1, you can get a PCI to USB 2.0 hub adapter for a song (definitely less than $10.-)

Does your computer otherwise run reasonably fast? (eg is it just the A2 that's slow?)
