So basically, while on holiday in August in France, suncream leaked all over my X5 and it remained immersed in it overnight. The player was literally flooded in the stuff. I wiped it off and luckily it booted, but not being in a position to clean it further at that moment I had to leave it for a few hours. Later that day it refused to boot and I made the descision to open it and try to clean it - and it worked! I did break 2 of the plastic screw holders though(I'm guessing their delicacy is deliberate) and knocked the red wire on the right off where it was soldered to(I just taped it down and left it, hoping it wouldn't be important, and it doesn't seem to be).
Since then I had no major issues. One minor problem was the screen would occasionally just flash white when I tried to turn it on, but would trn ooon straight after. I think it froze randomly twice also. One thing that happened once that was strage but was fixed by turning it on and ooff was that the buttons seemed to be mixed up. Up was down, down was play, clicking in the wheel was right, record was clicking in the wheel.....
Now this morning I look at my iAudio charging, but it has the "Connected to PC" screen up. I disconnected it and it wouldn't turn on. It was very hot as if the battery had been overcharged or something. I left it at home and went to school and when I got home it still wouldn't turn on. Later on it turned on, but only to a messed up screen(black with random whitish lines/squares) so I opened it and it looked ok, messed around with it a bit, charged it without the HD in(got a normal blue iAudio screen up, obviously saying "HDD Error"). I put the HD back and charged it with that in. Left it for a while and returned to see the "Connected to PC" screen again and it was hot once more. I slid the power button up and it went back to the charging screen, I then disconnected it. I seems to work fine now apart from the fact that every 2nd/3rd time you turn it on you get that random black screen... But there's also a much worse issue. Remember the problem with the messed up controls I mentioned earlier? That's happening now, only permanently....
I'm probably gonna open it again and give it a good clean out(I never opened the very front part, so there could still be suncream there) tomorrow. Fingers crossed it'll work!
Can anyone offer any insight into this whatsoever? What is the red wire on the right for? Line in or something? Or is it more important than that?
