Hi guys

Ive got alot of music, and i recently archived my entire latin collection in Flac on
an external harddrive, now flac if im correct, is suppossed to be a lossless codec with good compression, meaning that if I were to burn an album from a group of flac files, it would be exactly the same quality as the original CD. [yes]

My point is that downgrading a flac file to say an mp3 encoded at 128kbps, would produce a much smaller file size, but with a significant sound quality loss, my question is will upgrading or re-encoding an MP3 (encoded at 128kbps) to flac restore the lost quality.[confused]

cheers

No, transcoding always leads to quality loss. Only filesize gets bigger..
